Just be careful. People die falling from the cables. But it is a wonderful experience.

I will be packing the proper gear. That is one hike a body needs to train up to. I have seen enough Park Service videos on this to understand it is no routine undertaking, about as scary as a flight to Mars.

For my first hike into the Grand Canyon I trained for months, carrying 60 pounds of water in my backpack. Half Dome was a lot easier than that, but probably more dangerous. In fact, on the descent, I slipped once and had to hang on for dear life. We took two days to do Half Dome, first climbing to the camp ground near its base, then doing the ascent the next day.

Half Dome is one awesome climb! I loved being up there! You can't hear anything, not even the people 10 feet away, because there is nothing for the sound waves to bounce off of!
I was living in Fresno at that time, and I tell you, when I saw the tiny bit of Fresno through the crevices of the mountain peaks, I was disturbed...piss yellow around 3pm, and thick enough to cut with a steak knife...and I kid you not, shit brown by 5pm...we stalled to go home...despite having the possibility of walking in the dark, we REALLY didn't want to go home O.o

That was taken from Glacier Point. You can actually drive part way up. It's a spot where you can see the whole valley floor. Views are spectacular!
