Personality:
Generally, Rhode Island is a laid-back and easygoing person (bordering on lazy- he hates doing his paperwork, perhaps something he got from the Italies.). You might even catagorize him as "acting like an old man". But also, Nicholas is one of the most stubborn states in existence. Much like the weather in his land, Nick's emotions can change rapidly. One thing you should never do (and yet, it happens constantly... ) is to bug him about his lack of height.
Even though he is perhaps one of the oldest states, Rhode Island seems to be everyone's "lil' bro". In reality, he is very protective of his siblings- especially his fellow New Englanders, particularly Massachusetts.

Like any other Rhode Island stereotype, he drops the "r"s in many of his words. ( "I pahked the cah so I could buy my cawfeemilk." )
He works on a farm, but also fishes, sails, quahogs, and drinks Del's and cawfeemilk. His main diet is italian cuisine and seafood ( CHOWDAH! ). He's also a hardcore Red Sox fan, much like Mass. He's joined in after-game riots more than once.

A word of warning: it is dangerous to get Nick drunk (He is, after all, partially Irish- and has the highest amount of illegal drinking in the country )- but it is even more dangerous to let him drive, even if he's sober.

-Although he was first found by Italy in 1524, he was soon abandoned by the Italian in favor of further Exploration. It wasn't until around 1636 when he was recognized again, and that was when he met America (who was still young). He also Roger Williams, who raised the young colony like a son, teaching him of the principals of freedom such as freedom of Religion and speech (Principals that Rhode Island was based upon, and that inspired the founding principals of America). At first, Rhode Island didn't get along very well with his siblings Massachusetts and Connecticut, as well as the natives. A small war started that ultimately ended in his capital (Providence) being burned down, giving him a scar on his chest. After the war, his relationship with his siblings got better. Now, Rhode Island is virtually Massachusetts' "mini-me".

-It didn't take long for Rhode Island to go against England. He was the first to both attack England, start an army, and to ask for Independence. Naturally, their once almost father-son relationship died into mutual almost hatred. During the Revolution, England even invaded Newport, RI's major city at the time. Being stubborn as a horse, Rhode Island tried to fend off England, but alone his army was to weak. It was during this time England shot Nick: once in the leg and another grazing his shoulder.

- After the war, Rhody was the last of the 13 colonies to become a state. It was because of the fact he wanted the Bill of Rights. America, now fully grown, had to threaten his "son" into becomeing a state. Obviously, it worked.

- From this point on Rhode Island became proseperous and introduced things like industrialization to Alfred. Unfortunately for Rhody, by the end of the Revolution he was at his full height- and that was the start of his napoleon complex.

-Rhode Island has participated in all the major wars that America has, whether helping make weapons or sending in troops. A side affect of this is that Nicholas often will have dreams of the wars he has fought in.

-Being close with the Italies (because of the high amount of Italian immigrants to RI) also meant he was in close relations with another thing: the mafia. In the 1920's to nearly present day, Rhode Island was a headquarters of mafia activity. It isn't the most pleasant of memories for him.

-Rhodey isn't just good at fishing and farming, he's actually pretty well known among other states for making fine silverware and jewelery.

-Him and his "daughter" Newport introduced polo, the circus, and the first british troops to land in america (which wasn't necessarily a good thing...)

-Roger Williams, who "founded" the colony of Rhode Island in 1636, was like an uncle to lil' Rhody. Rhody keeps many beliefs that Williams taught him, including freedom of speech and religion. After Williams died, everyone seemed to be influenced by his views.

-Nicholas still holds a grudge with Arthur, particularly because He took over Newport during the Revolution. (and he thinks tea tastes bad. Particularly because of the Boston Tea party. )

-He was the last of the 13 to become a state because he wanted the Bill of Rights. He only became one because Alfred threatened to treat him like a foreign nation and tax his exports to other states.

- As a young colony, no matter how much the native americans helped him he still whined about land. But despite this, he still tried to keep the peace, a failed attempt, as Massachusetts and Connecticut stormed in to his land and battled the natives in King Philip's War. The natives were so angry they burnt Rhodey's "son", Providence, and nearly killed him. The battle ended when king Philip, the native's leader, was killed.

-When Rhode island was first a colony, Massachusetts didn't like him very much. Later on however, Massachusetts gave Rhodey Little Compton and Tiverton.

-Rhodey's still the only state to celebrate VJ day.

-Up to the 90's Rhodey was notorious for having relations with an organized crime group called the Patriarca crime family. He was one of their headquarters, but New York was the one that controlled him through the mafia.

-Rhodey's land may be small, like him, but don't be fooled. There's over 400 miles of coastline there.

-Rhodey has a huge burn scar on his lower chest from the Station Nightclub Fire, one of the worst fires of it's kind. Also, He has an Anchor tattoo with thirteen stars around it, representing his flag, on his right shoulder.
There are a few other scars, but He doesn't like to recall those stories. At least two were from the civil war and another was a gunshot wound from when England shot him back during the Revolutionary war.
Also, he has another burn mark from King Philip's war on his back, but it is barely recognizable.

-Nicholas has more than one home on his land- He owns a farm where he lives most of the time, but he also lives in the Newport Mansions.

-The vampires of Rhode Island were so infamous they even partially inspired some ideas for Bram Stoker's Dracula. So, naturally, every Halloween Rhody transforms into a vampire.
