I had to read up a lot of stuff to fully comprehend everything that happened.
And I also don't think it was a good choice to spread the events of the FFXV universe across three mediums (anime, movie, game). After reaching Chapter 3 I watched Kingsglaive, and while it was a great experience on Blu-Ray, there was a lot of depth added, especially in regards to the events of Luna/Regis/Ring of Lucii, that I would have missed by only playing the game, and that really shouldn't be. The key parts should have been added in forms of flashbacks to the game, especially the whole assault on Insomnia. They cut in a few scenes of Kingsglaive but it was very scarce.

I do agree with you about Kingsglaive but the anime was fine as it didn't really introduce too much that you wouldn't have understood in the game. There's people saying FFXV is the worst one simply because it's not the same as the older Final Fantasy's in terms of its storytelling aspect. The other ones had a lot of cutscenes and something that was more linear of a story. FFXV being open world felt like its story was lacking because it wasn't predetermined when the player would be coming across more story.
I love FFXV and think it's a great addition to the Final Fantasy name. One of my only gripes would be that the combat system is a bit too simple and not much customization overall.

I love it too, but I don't have much room to compare as the only other FF games I played (except for spin-offs like tactics and other minor entries on handhelds) are 13 and 13-2. I dropped Lightning Returns because I was disappointed by the graphics, which where actually a backstep compared to the earlier entries! And the whole Majora's Mask time limit was annoying too.
I never got to play any of the earlier games because I was a Nintendo kid and never owned a Playstation prior to 3

Well FFI through FFVI were all on NES and SNES so there's that lol FFX is on PS3 and PS4 and soon to be FFXII on PS4 as well ^^ I loved both of those too. 
I didn't like XIII at all for a multitude of reasons but they fall under my opinion lol

Oh lol I must've been too young for the SNES FF's then because I don't remember coming across them
And I actually wanted to get FFX but the old graphics made me reconsider... But I'm really looking forward to the FVII remake though

Well I-VI are all bit graphics but there are also some remakes for like I, II, and IV on the PSP. Don't know if you have that lol
I'm definitely looking forward to the VII remake ^^ I played through the original FFVII and really loved it. They way they're talking about the remake is that even though it's a remake, there's still going to be differences in it. I would suggest playing the original to see how it was back then but if you want to go into the remake spoiler free, then it's up to you lol
