you are sooooo lucky to have been able to watch the whole cycle! As many hummers as I've seen, I have never seen a nest in nature!

i've always wondered why i paint - or take photographs - and i come to understand more and more - it's to express a need to create. contests
are fun when they push you past a point you thought you'd never go -
but other than that i don't take them very seriously - probably cause i
think i should always win

It's a pure pleasure for me, capturing a particular moment in time or place. I have more of a pictorial memory... hopeless at names & place names
In childhood i was more competative (though only in dance & on stage) but that soon disappeared as i grew up

'fraid i didn't lose that competitive urge as i grew up - but now that i'm older it's much easier to appreciate the value of the doing instead of concentrating so much on the winning

I think the results of a capture are much more rewarding than winning... as you say, age i find has some benifits.... i think

this was a tough capture - with a very old camera and cheap telephoto lens - but miracles do happen -

beautiful! what a wonderful shot! The birds are beautifully featured, though camoflauged, and the leaves have a wonderfully ethereal feel, like shadows. Beautiful!

check out my gallery - you'll see at least six more photos of hummingbirds i captured last summer. we get them in mid-April and they stay till mid October - all summer we have them - it's such a great treat - we see them everywhere around here
