Gaia is nice, if a tad overbearing at times. She can easily converse with others, and always tries to lend a sympathetic ear. She is an excellent listener, aided by her penchant for information seeking. This, on occasion, can go a bit too far, as she might overhear a conversation that's meant to be private, and end up loitering to pick up on every little detail, and perhaps offering up her own thoughts unprompted. It is not her intention to butt-in where she was not invited, but her tendency to do so could leave others less than pleased.
Gaia is a deeply caring soul. Much of her view of the world comes from her confusion and upset toward the seemingly meaningless loss of life nearly every season, and so she tries to make a friend in most anyone she comes across, hoping for their wellbeing. Those who know her know they can count on her to lend a hand if asked- if she doesn't offer before they get the chance.
When left to her own devices, Gaia can get a bit lost in her own world. With new events in the world keeping the future indefinitely uncertain, and her place in life in the present as yet undecided, trying to make sense of all her thoughts is a full-time job; and she could probably use an assistant at that. And it's not just the world at large that she dwells on. Should an interaction not go well, or even if she perceives it to go so much as slightly awkward, Gaia will worry over the impression she's made until the air can be cleared. This can lead to misunderstandings where she might have made an assumption based one's specific wording, when in reality it's just not that deep, leading to further discontent.
In her efforts to extend warmth to anyone she comes across, combined with her desire for understanding, it would not be difficult to pull the wool over her eyes. Gaia has seen much, but experienced little, and would likely be quite trusting of anyone who made the right first impression, giving little thought to ulterior motives. This could lead to things as trivial as being made the butt of a joke, or as grave as being led to places one ought not be, simply because she was told otherwise.
History:
Gaia's life began among the edges of turmoil.
Her father Ereb and mother Nys lived among the ranks of Tundes at the time of Osirus' death. Expecting their first children as the pack split was an unfortunate turn of events, and their decision on which budding leader to follow was driven solely by this fact. The promises of peace in Skydas made the pair hopeful for safety and stability among which to start their family.
Their only child, Gaia, is born as Skydas settles. And so her story begins, alongside so many other things.
Gaia was a kind pup. Sheltered, perhaps, as her parents kept close watch in an uncertain new world, but never mistrusting, and always ready to make a friend. She seemed taken and yet careful of the world, respectful. While some young pups might dig up mole hills and scrap with local wildlife, Gaia was keen to keep a watchful distance, more likely to try and make conversation with birds or turtles. She wanted little more than to learn about anyone who would indulge her. They all had such interesting stories about such strange sounding lives.
Strange sounding occurrences seemed to never end in the pup's life. It was endless, and it felt as though the world never slowed down.
Tainted waters taking lives, followed by visions of a lake sweeping across the path had her ushered away from streams and all but the known safest water sources.
These chaotic events had her wide-eyed interest in the world grow slowly more and more hesitant. But her intrigue was never lost. There was never an explanation, and things did not happen without reason. How could anyone hole up and be content to just let the world do as it would without answer? That was what her parents did, and she couldn't begrudge them for it, much as she disagreed. They experienced fracturing homes, unceremonious, causeless deaths and all they wanted was to keep their only child safe.
But she wasn't a little girl anymore. Gaia turned her first year among an influx of unfamiliar faces as Skydas brought in the refugees of the flood. Still young, yes, but growing, and refusing to hide from tragedy in hopes that it would pass them by. Her parents' warnings had ensured she was not a reckless youth, diving head-first into danger in search of the world's mysteries. They had proven to be deadly, and Gaia would not throw away her life leaving no stone unturned. But curiosity is not one to be dissuaded.
So she watched. And she wondered. And she contemplated, looking on with awe, confusion, and an odd respect for the wild magics that wrought havoc on their world, earned by showcasing power one was not to trifle with. Just over two years of age when the night of the surge shook Almos, the magnitude of the forces they were up against were impossible to ignore- if they were even against them to begin with. Magic was wielded by wolves, and they weren't bad. However the power of the island behaved was clearly not understood, and left endless questions.
She wanted to help. She wanted to stop the seemingly needless deaths, try to understand the differing views of the packs, once united, now strained. But where was one to start?
This is where her story begins in earnest: a fresh adult looking for her place in an ever-changing and unpredictable world.
