Description
Like trees, Seedlings do not have a biological gender, and each of them can carry both female and male reproductive systems. You may now be thinking that Seedlings can reproduce, yes? But they can't, they are unable to reproduce like other creatures and instead are formed naturally in rivers, trees, earth, and during rainy days. Although they aren't able to sexually reproduce, these little ones still form couples (and trios). These Seedlings share such a strong bond that, once together, they will never drift apart.
Social gender is not an important part of their society, even if some clan members may assume traditionally masculine or feminine roles, but those Seedlings are in the minority. Some seedlings can grow bigger and broader, and some can be more slender and delicate. However, their physical appearance does not mean anything, and it doesn't influence on how they match up with one another or what role they play in their society. Their bond is not sexual; it is called "Cosmia."
Cosmia is the union of their essence - the bond of their soul, body, and mind. It's impossible to choose or predict who your Cosmia partner will be, so it is tough to see a Seedling actively seeking someone to be with. However, during the first day of spring, the clans gather together in a massive festival, singing and dancing in the hopes of (who knows?) finding someone. Some may spend their whole life alone but they will always, even if in old age, find their Cosmia bond.
In this drawing, you can see a grown Seedling during the "Manmah" spring festival without their hoodie and cloak, which they use to protect the various seeds and sprouts all over their hair and skin.
And you, have you found your Cosmia yet??
