Just to make things clear, this critic IS up to the standard, it's extremely helpful, it's pointing at both good and bad things... It's superb
And I really need some criticizing about the faults of the drawing, you know I learned a lot from hearing such things and it'll help me when I decide to do another drawing kinda like this one..
I wouldn't really figure out the bad things all by myself, the moon is really too simple and unrealistic, also the clouds and so on.. I agree.
I did hurry towards the end, the sky was done in a flash, I rushed a lot and it would be more appropriate to say that the upper half is unfinished..
And thanks for pointing out the good things in detail, I'll be sure to keep this in mind for future projects
So.. One big thank you, and one for a bonus
You wrote an awesome critic!

can feel a whole story unfolding within this little world view... looks very much like a brilliantly detailed illustration from a book.

you want constructive criticisms.... right....I can try.

the shading is superb. I cant fault this at all. the only fault I can see at all is about the angle of the town below, as apposed to the angle of the tower/castle above. perhaps looking at photos from similar angles can help get across what I mean by this. personally I find drawing shots from very high up to be difficult for this very reason. so while I can give constructive criticism I don't think I could achieve the effect I am talking about, without a fair bit more practice. but of course we are working on these things; I can tell you take angles and lighting very seriously. you definitely have what it takes to become well known for what you do.

overall impact and style are top banana.

the feel and complexity of the image are very good;

the shading and depth of field are also very good.

perhaps the bottom end could do with darkening a little, but not too much, as it stands out and looks very snowy down in the bottom edge.

apart from these piddling bones of contention, I cannot find fault with this.

hope this helps, have a wonderful day my friend!

CloudSpawner In reply to simonpark81 [2013-11-17 13:01:51 +0000 UTC]

Let me tell you this, I always wish I had the sense or skill for analyzing drawings,Β  in a way like you did

I like your critic.
Now as for the angling, I'm not completely sure how do you mean it but my guess is that the town below could be drawn from a bit more "top-down" view ? To be honest, I don't remember taking any perspective into consideration when I was doing this
You're also right about the shading in the bottom and I think other areas would need it too.

This helps, it was a nice and sudden surprise (so much that I'm almost not used to replying so much anymore xD ).
It means a lot and I think I needed a bit of a push so thanks for the nice words,Β  I'm happy that you see some potential in me
I also think the same about you, except I'm far behind, in art and in your way of thinking that I respect. Also I wish I had such a commenting sense, I'd have trouble writing anything meaningful to someone alse like you did to me.. Soo let's say I haveΒ  something to strive to

Thanks again and I wish you a great day too!

simonpark81 In reply to CloudSpawner [2013-11-26 12:20:48 +0000 UTC]

lol thanks...but at the same time, its not that im better in any way, either with drawing or using the English language,

but rather try to think of it in terms of perhaps a little more experienced. I have had to struggle and strive my ass off to get where I am now.... you know that quote by Tyler Durden in fight club? :

"You need a near-life experience! you don't know disaster. its only after you have lost everything that you can be truly resurrected. from here you don't even know what the bottom could be like."

well, I been at the bottom. I learnt from my mistakes and pulled myself up out of an unbelievable gutter. I was always "clever" by school standardsΒ but with such things as drug addiction and being dragged into the dark world of crime, there is no easy path.

that was a long time ago now, and im glad to have experienced it, to help others, but it has left many scars.

I hope you can find your muse and your confidence in ways that don't involve you totalling yourself like I did.

I just try to be as honest as I can be

CloudSpawner In reply to simonpark81 [2013-12-02 21:00:16 +0000 UTC]

So that's even more deserving of a respect. Your experiences and the struggling you went through, the things you had to overcome.
I don't know about my muse,Β  I'mΒ  honestly lost at the moment but it's not the first time so... it's a familiar struggle for me too xD

Dying-Hopes [2013-09-26 20:47:20 +0000 UTC]

Gosh, this is SO impressive. The details and depth of this piece are just breathtaking, it must have cost you ages to do all that. It was really worth all your time and effort, though, because it looks great.
The atmosphere is just AWESOME. It's indeed gothic, dark, and I can't even start telling you all the stories that I imagine to happen in that castle and its surroundings. ^^ The atmosphere is mostly decided by the sky! I love that it happens at night, with such a cool moon and such beautiful stars. even though the clouds look a bit strange, in my opinion... The greyscale really contributes to the atmosphere as well, and often when people only use greyscale there's problems with contrast... But you managed to do a wonderful job and everything has enough contrast.
The details are just... lkfppananana. And that's a positive spasm of my hands on my keyboard just because the details are incredible. The forest! Alllll those freaking trees! They even all have shadows!! The houses! The castle in front! The little castle on the mountain far away!
In conclusion: it's just gorgeous. You've done such a great job and your amount of patience is admirable. Well done

Umm.. yea, almost got a heart attack when I saw the full comment open up, you're officially awesome now (well you were before too anyways so screw me ).
You really took your time studying it I guess and I'm really grateful, nice observing
And yep, the clouds are weird, that's the main fact xD
Next time I'm making the clouds all movie-end-of-the-world-like so they'll jump at you! But not now, I'm tired. But I've gotten the idea for the next time I'm doing something like that thanks to the critics that have showed me the right way. This sounds all weird but I don't know how to put it any other way
Speaking about ideas..
You gave me another one.. about castle scenery.. I kinda started developing aΒ  story a year or so ago and recently I've been working on it again, and if I succeed I'll draw a comic based on it.. Probably gonna release it on some other account I'll make just for that.. But that's not gonna happen soon . Anyways, you gave me some ideas just like that, I kinda feel creative again..
IΒ  didn't plan on becoming active anytime soon cause of an ongoing job and the school starting soon.. But who wouldn't respond to such awesome comments.
Thank you for the comments, for checking on my gallery, for this particular critic and everything, and for waking me out of my slumber..

And 'bout the journal you wrote, I don't think you should really change your style, just evolve it and of course try adding some other (fantasy and non-fantasy) creatures in, or anything else that comes to mind, doesn't matter if you're not used to drawing it. Your drawings are really really nice but god knows how much higher you can climb, I'm sure the limit's not even close . Good luck with anything new you try and looking forward to see your new work
Have a nice day/or night/or pizza ice cream !

Dying-Hopes In reply to CloudSpawner [2013-09-28 11:30:30 +0000 UTC]

Yayyy, I'm officially awesome
I'm glad I could inspire you for new ideas!!

Thanks for saying that about my journal Of course I'll always try to get better! It's just that the subject of my drawings (humans) doesn't seem to be very popular! I shouldn't strive that much towards other people's approval, that's a mistake of mine. Ah, well. Thanks for telling your opinion, it matters and I'll think about it!!

You have a nice day too! (pizza ice cream?? Ice cream, mmmmm.)

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

CloudSpawner In reply to Dying-Hopes [2013-09-28 15:41:25 +0000 UTC]

Yes!
I read the comments bellow and I honestly didn't think about it in the sense of "change for others" or anything. I think of my drawing in a way that I want to be as versatile as possible, and I want to draw more than let's say.. just dragons or landscapes.. But that's my logic, if it's from your perspective, I also think you shouldn't just change your style because the others want so, if you enjoy drawing people then keep drawing them, it's not like they're any less popular than anything else and you have a nice style, so just keep that up then if it fits you best
And then become better than everybody else at drawing people if you still want more people to recognize you.
And why not striving towards people's approval? Everyone does it, me included..
This comment contradicts the previous one completely and I'm not sure if I should just bury myself or fly away or something gosh ><

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Dying-Hopes In reply to CloudSpawner [2013-10-01 19:21:19 +0000 UTC]

Hahaha, don't bury yourself / fly away, because then I'll have to make an effort in digging you out or growing wings to chase you. It's okay, I get what you mean!
I agree that everybody strives towards people's approval, but that's not really a good thing. Because very often people do not approve, even though your work/opinion/looks, ... are worth approval. You have to draw for yourself and you have to live for yourself in such a way that you are happy with it, and what others think doesn't matter as long as you are satisfied and happy.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

CloudSpawner In reply to Dying-Hopes [2013-10-02 13:10:12 +0000 UTC]

What did I do to deserve someone digging me out or flying-chasing me xD
