Let me start off by saying this photograph is visually pleasing to the eye. The colors are gorgeous. The bird is almost looking right into the lens and you captured really great detail. I also like that you can see the snow falling in the background. I honestly think that it's a little overexposed, and had you reduced the exposure it would have also gotten rid of some of the grain or "noise" that is present. A very kind and thoughtful review, Martha. I fear the noise was unavoidable due to the high ISO, and indeed I did overexpose, I guess by way of style. When I process a file, I do it pretty much by mood, always with the fear of taking it a step too far, but always willing to try to say what I feel in the image. I do birds so often that I almost want to push a good capture (you know they are rare) for all it is worth. In this case, what makes me very happy is the five stars you gave me for impact. That's what I was hoping for. Thank you for taking the time to write the critique. It is the kind of helpful feedback that I need. If you have the chance, please do me the favor of looking at some of my other birds.
