This is awesome, I was an Animal Science major in college (focused in Ruminants not horses) and this is really cool. I wish I'd found this then.

There is a lot of incorrect information on this, It's good in theory but in reality its spreading incorrect information.Β
Maybe consult with this website, It is updated with colours and genetics info regularly.Β

Aw, man, I could spend HOURS playing this game when I was a little girl...
I think now maybe I know where my interest in genetics comes from.
I might write a critique on this sometime soon... Β

Ah, this is very helpful! Im commissioning someone for a foal design, and I am new to all this genetic and the genotype stuff.
So a Sabino smoky black Rabicano would be written as, Ee/aa/crCr/dd/zz/chch/FF/stysty/kitSb/rbRb/pp Correct? I'm just now learning so haha.

Actaully, it would be E-/aa/crCr/zz/chch/--/stysty/Sb-/Rb- and you can put whatever you want instead of the -

It can be hard in the beginning but you start to understand it if you take the time. I suggest you to look on Wikipedia (especially the English one) it's pretty good at explaining it

The pattern 1 (patn1) and the pattern 2 (patn2) genes affect the look of the leopard gene (lp). When a horse has the leopard gene without the dominant pattern1 and/or pattern 2 genes (PATN1 and/or PATN2), the horse would be what is called varnish roan. With one of the dominant pattern 1 genes in the genotype of the horse, it will have the leopard coat (white with large and/or small splotches and spots of color). If it has the dominant pattern 2 gene in its genotype, it will have the normal appaloosa hip mark or blanket.
So, depending on the appaloosa marking that the sabino horse has, the genotype will vary.
Here are the possible ways to show the genotype:
(please note that I am using theΒ heterozygousΒ forms since I don't know the genotype of theΒ horse)
Leopard:Β EE/AA/CrPrl/Dd/zZ/chCH/FF/StySty/SybKit/pp/Lplp/PATN1patn1/patn2patn2
Varnish Roan:Β EE/AA/CrPrl/Dd/zZ/chCH/FF/StySty/SybKit/pp/Lplp/patn1patn1/patn2patn2
Blanket:Β EE/AA/CrPrl/Dd/zZ/chCH/FF/StySty/SybKit/pp/Lplp/patn1patn1/PATN2patn2
Please note:
Varnish roan, leopard, and appaloosa blanket has other forms and names. So if you never heard of the terms such as varnish roan (which you probably have), it is just another name for roan that is not cause by the roan gene (rn).

I think they grey is broken.Β The horse used to turn a nice pewter color with grey on but now it just goes to pure white with black hooves.
π: 0 β©: 1
Citron--Vert In reply to SourMilkshakes [2014-03-14 14:19:39 +0000 UTC]
It's not broken, I just change it to make it more realistic and it become lighter with age, but you can modify the age (make it younger to have all the shade of gray color)

:iconuparoowplz: is this how you would write the genetic sequence for a liver flaxen gold champagne?
π: 0 β©: 2
Citron--Vert In reply to LunaHarborsSecrets [2013-12-17 15:07:00 +0000 UTC]
Yes but if the genotype is e e you can put any a, A ou At that will not change anything. And Prl is not effective without Cr ou another Prl so you don't need it for your coat. And you don't really have to write what's not effective, so that will give you for a liver flaxen gold champagne : ee CH- ff STY- (- is for recessive or dominant). I hope it's clear.
