Description I didn't know a whole lot about Doctor Who in 1996, but I knew enough to know somthing big was going down on the BBC's "Doctor Who night" on the 27th of May. Unfortunately though I had english homework and thus my only memories of the TV movie where sneaky glances through a crack in the door. It must have been almost 5 years before I actually got to see it myself on DVD.

One thing that really did stick with me was the new TARDIS consle room, now a wonderful piece of ornate Vernian design. While I do like the traditional white and roundels, this really was the first time entering the Tardis gave a real feeling of awe with the time rotar now extending almost 3 stories high and hundreds of momentos from the Doctors many adventures. It's pretty sure to say this set inspired not just the tone of the 8th Doctors era, but pretty much the design of everything that followed.

Unfortunately another one of those "Abandoned, not finished" pieces. I'd probably revisit it if any better references of Paul Mcgann  appear as I think a better pose would add to the scene enormously.

Excellent work.
I always loved this interior, no TARDIS interior before or since has really had this sense of grandeur or expansiveness that this had.
I love the detail you've got on the time rotor, so clear and blue.

Fantastic work - I'd never considered compositing those two promo shots of Paul together but the work very well!

Nothing to be ashamed of, I just have an encyclopaedic knowledge of TVM McGann promo shots

This is my favorite console room (and my favorite Doctor!) I want this set back, although the current console room is, I think, inspired in part by it. Next to the traditional white-and-roundels, as you call it, it really slaps you with the "bigger on the inside!" effect. And the fact that the ceiling was the scanner -! Gorgeous. My jaw dropped; I was in love. It's still one of the only scenes I'll let people see from the movie! (It's not at all Eight's fault it's such a rubbish movie much of the time...)

That being said, this is a lovely piece! Thanks for taking another look at a space we didn't get to explore nearly enough.

This is all kinds of fabulous!  For all its faults, the 1996 TV movie did a couple of things right - the excellent TARDIS console room, and Paul McGann's Doctor.  It's a tragedy that he was never given the opportunity to stretch his wings in the role, but the terrible Americanised TV film sadly ruined the chances of a Doctor Who return for almost another ten years.

My favourite TARDIS console! :3 I love it from this angle - we dont really see it this way very much, usually it's the view towards the bookcase and doors....

Thank you You actually never see it from this angle in the movie so the background is kind of Guesswork.

I think you got it right - there was a part of the TARDIS in the movie which was just an archway and a very big curtain (wonder what the Doctor was hiding)

From What I can tell one whole half of the set was pretty much freestanding elements, with the curtains and roman columns. It's  pity they never used the second level.
