It never hurts to try playing with your photos a bit. I think it generally gets good results. It's just over-editing you have to watch out for.

I know, I admit that's happened to me once or twice but I've never really tried properly.
Soon I'm going to have a long sit down and just play around on Photoshop.
Everyone says that someting good comes from it in the end.
