Not sure that it's obvious, so just in case - the water have been seeping away for years, and now it's finally not enough for the fish to live and it is dying.
To be fair, water tang this size would probably be considered animal abuse anyway, but those are details.
I wanted to make this a series (glass bodies, living tattoos), but while I more or less know what to do with Majima, I am at loss with other characters.
So if you have any ideas - feel free to share!
