Description Newspaper, spraypaint, white-out, marker and acrylic on wood. 2' x 2'

A gift for my friend Jess, painted back in September. Yes, those are bird-related lyrics from "New Slang" by the Shins:

like a gull takes to the wind
i'd a jumped from my tree
and danced like a king

Title comes from the newspaper text.

Haha, I love the clouds in this too.
And the newspaper in the bird is a really cool effect, love it!

what a beaut. seriously. the vintage style matches perfect with the indie soul within and the result is really inspired, original and very marvelous.

by the way, that song did change my life, too.

Ooh, groovy. The thing I like best about your use of a bunch of different media is that it gives your pieces such texture. It's faaabulous, dahlink. Also, popcorn clouds = so cute.

I enjoy this piece very much. The varity of colors, the different materials used to make this piece, the words as well as the birds all make this a splendid piece. If you had this for sale, I would purchase it.

The newspaper was spontaneous, but it ended up looking quite fab. Meanwhile, your photography is fantastic, especially the Japanese pieces. +fav from me.

White-out? New seen it used before...and on wood. Neat.

Cool use of tools.

I heart white-out for writing and drawing small details. Makes more sense to use a pen than a brush for this stuff.

'Bout time you put something new up.

The bird in the bottom left, why does have a different texture than the rest (besides the newspaper one, obviously)?

The birds were made with thick, thick black paint that stood out from the board. When my friend took the picture, some of this texture could be seen in the light as white spots.

It looks really good, of course. I never was much good at the whole collage thing. Or the painting thing. Or the drawing thing for that matter, but that's not really the point.

You really should get a prints account. I've got some cash lying around just waiting to be spent.

And my final question is this: what newspaper is that bird from?

I'm about to put up some more pieces and then... well, prints are practically a given.

The newsprint comes from.... the LA Times? Yeah, Saturday edition, misc. page featuring a request for the readers' favorite poems (to publish, presumably), and what looks like a trail map of the canyons.

Okay, once you get prints up, I promise to buy at least one.

Probably more though.
