Description Todays Inktober word is "precious"

This little creature is Jimmadi, a species that generally lives in deep caves on only two planets.  Unfortunately, these little guys are highly prized by jewelers for the crystals that grow on their backs and they have been mined into near extinction. They do not breed well in captivity so there are very few of these precious creatures around, all owned by jewelers who periodically 'clip' their gems, which seem to glow and swirl inside with a life of their own.  While many have commercialized them, there are some traditional jewelers that keep their Jimmadi away from cages and treat them more as friends than commodities, and only clip their gems when they are long enough that it doesn't hurt. 

I'm not sure what kind Rover has found here; an escaped Jimmadi from a gem factory, a happy friend of a jeweler or a little creature in its natural habitat.  What do you think?

Thanks! I've been looking for an excuse to draw a Rover and Amaril crossover. I can see them bumping into each other while dealing with an unethical jeweler. It might be some time until I can post it though, since I don't have access to a scanner at the moment.

Awww... "precious" in more than one way, I see. You are so creative with these species you make up! I like the idea of some people raising them rather than killing them, and just "clipping" the gems like shearing sheep.

I really would like to do this inktober thing but It's all about having the time! I'm always so busy during college weeks...

Guess I'll just have to watch you all enjoy yourselves while I sit and suffer aaaaaaaaa

Well, I thought of doing Kirk Douglas singing in 20,000 Leagues.

Yeah it does take some time. But it doesbt require that the picture be elaborate or fancy. Just something in pen a day. It can be something that takes ten minutes.

Imagine Rover being a Pokemon Trainer... As a side hobby. It'd be pretty funny if instead of using pokeballs to catch Pokemon, he'd try wrangling them with a rope, cowboy style. xD

Such a precious lil creature!  I love it!
I like the touch with the radial effect too.  Kinda hints this creature glows.  

Also I love the texture you did on the hair.

I see the little creature as a stowaway on his ship.  Maybe it slipped into a shipment waiting to be loaded.  Maybe it even gave birth in the "crate" (or what passes for one).
