Wicked design and textures, the feet remind me of the Deinonychus, [link] which had a large claw on its hind feet, which could be lifted when running. So my question is, can this dog's claws be retracted, since they are facing opposite each other on the hind feet. About the skull; what is the function of the bones in front of the teeth? It implies the dog must have a long tongue.

Chieftx In reply to CrystalEnceladus [2010-03-27 05:02:41 +0000 UTC]

thanks! I really tried my hardest with the shapes and surfaces!
the claws are always out, as they are metal and grow from the creatures bones, they are solely for traction though, the reason that they look so raptor-like is that I wanted to keep the style consistent.

the purpose of the teeth? to eviscerate and destroy of course, solid titanium incisors with organic molars and canines. there is no tongue though, nanohair conveyors line the inside of the mouth to bring in sustenance.

questions like this make my day yunno

Ah, so the bones in front of the skull are also teeth, yep, I was wondering what that space was for. So another question; can it dislocate its jaw like a python? I'm wondering about the size of its prey.

Chieftx In reply to CrystalEnceladus [2010-03-27 05:31:06 +0000 UTC]

well they are a completely unnatural animal made for totally unnaturally purposes so they only eat a kibble feed made of a composite of oils plastics and metals to keep their unnatural components working healthily. their energy is made though intense photosynthesis in their dorsal spines.

they don't really have prey par say. they are just do what they are trained to do, which includes guarding things and mauling foolish trespassers.

CrystalEnceladus In reply to Chieftx [2010-03-27 05:40:32 +0000 UTC]

Oil plastics, yummy! But who knows, they might develop a taste for meat, too!

I thought the dorsal spines were display things for mating (but then, prolly not, since they're machines), but photosynthesis totally makes sense, considering the surface ratio is much larger than their size. Nice to see someone actually making scientific sense with their creations.

thanks, they are found on a very hot desert like planet, ideal for solar powered creatures. gases are exchanged though those gill like structures as well.
The idea I;m working with is that these creatures were found in the wreakage of an alien ship and the character who finds them begins to research their xenotechnology so that he too can make robotic based organisms to carry out his evil schemes.

I love the plates and the design! The detail on the shoulder is beautiful. My main concern here is spacing. You should work on larger pieces of paper and cut it down when you are done, this poor guy looks cramped into the space.

He's very cute (that's a compliment, I like anything that could kill someone) good job!

Chieftx In reply to JadeX9980 [2010-02-02 00:13:09 +0000 UTC]

I;m glad you like it, I spent alot of time planning this guys anatomy.

but Yeah I'm not at all satisfied with the size of the rest of the space around him either. my scanner does this annoying thing where it will zoom in on something and cut out the rest. this was the best I could get after five tries.

Thanks again!

OHHH it was the SCANNER. Scanners are my mortal enemies. My digital cam isn't too much better but at least I have a little more control.

Thanks! this sucker took forever to make, mostly because the pencil would fade and I would have to keep darkening it all the time. also I had a very hard time getting getting the curves just where I wanted them.
