I cannot say more than the other comments have provided. Simply that this is one of the most original and skilled pieces I have seen on this site.

Uhgh, unimaginable creepy realism! You have a wicked eye for coloration, for surfaces, that your viewers might be drawn and repulsed at the same time! This work is a twisted wonder.

I went through your entire gallery trying to decide which painting I liked the most to comment on and this is where I ended up. Horribly beautiful, one of my new favorite artists on DA.

i hope to get my own place within a year or so and was wondering if this piece comes as a big print, something along the lines of 3x2m.

if it doesnt yet exist, could you let me know how much it would cost roughly?

GBP here.

keep up the great work & all the best.

awesome work with the skin and the general colors and textures!
I like how his eyes are almost closed, like trying not to see, but his third eye is alert and kinda curious..
what does that triangle mean?

penrethro In reply to Asfodelo [2009-12-27 15:45:22 +0000 UTC]

if you've seen other works, some of them also include nimbers- some subtle some in pain sight. though this is hardly an explenation really, more of a ' ooh look at that' sorta reply

Asfodelo In reply to penrethro [2009-12-28 20:35:10 +0000 UTC]

yeah, I've seen that already, but I still can't get the meaning of them..

penrethro In reply to Asfodelo [2009-12-29 01:11:50 +0000 UTC]

the triangle specifically i think might be do to with a whole thing about

Enlightenment
^
Life death

i'm sure shamanism has some pyramid style thing like that. or it could be i'm an idiot and its just something in the work

love this piece, the wearyness around his eyes draw attention to the alertness of his third eye, the cloudy aura that frames his head is so well lit, and i am once again intrigued by your persistent placement of the number 5 on your characters and in your pieces one day i'll figure it out... no wait, i just remembered i dont have the follow through for that soo... i probably wont haha great piece again chet +fave

I love the subtle coloration under the skin and the dimpling. His closed eyes look weary but his 3rd eye is clear and aware hes being watched by the veiwer. You realy are exceptional at expressions.

He looks like someone I want to ask questions, but I dont supose Id like the answers.

thanks very much. i love your work, so i appreciate the kind words.

that was the idea with him- he is seeing true reality with his third eye. he is having a moment of clarity. was reading about shamanism and ayuhuasca when i painted this, hence the dripping from the mouth as well.

Sleetwealth In reply to chetzar [2008-06-01 07:03:02 +0000 UTC]

Thank you! Im honored you liked it!
I know a little about shamanism, but not ayhuasca. Its a very powerful mix you have of spirituality and a sort of grotesque yet emotionaly compelling being! Id have donated an organ to have your paint skills years ago,but Im a happy sculptor now so, its all good.

thank you.

i wanted to do fine art sculpture myself initially, but gave it up for oils due to the time/cost involved for what i wanted to do.

Sleetwealth In reply to chetzar [2008-06-01 18:50:28 +0000 UTC]

Well I have never done anything like bronze or costly materials that would be considered fine art. Polymer clay is cost effective and doesnt take any more time than a fully detailed painting. Of course if you wanted to do large scale it would be a challange to work with.
Originaly I wanted to do hot glass sculpture ,but set up was very intimidating .

AKPB-JLJ [2008-05-11 07:14:09 +0000 UTC]

man, the detail is so exquisite. and you've always been great with titles. been following you since my first venture into dark art. you've been a huge influence, especially your sort of gas mask themed paintings.
i could only hope to do that digitally.

chetzar In reply to AKPB-JLJ [2008-06-01 06:05:46 +0000 UTC]

thank you. i think titles are an important part of art. i have only settled for titles that i didn't love (due to deadlines) a handful of times, and they still bother me. but a good title to me is like the cherry on top!

the third eye never gets older. but what are those chimneys? while he closes his human eyes to the world the shamanic eye sees it all? or am ı too romantic

I love the title, and the expression of the man's face. It fits so well. I love how to the left there's a mountain with blue skies, and to the right there's what looks like smoke stacks with a gray sky. They create a great contrast in color, along with the contrast between natural and industrial.

It might embarrass the hell out of you to know that I stumpled upon your art years ago and set up a computer at work to slide show 30 of your pieces at 5 second intervals 9 hours per day, 5 days per week, for 5 years.
Oh, ok, you are in a rotation with Chris Mars and Dan Ouelette.

A little creepy, I know. But I thought it might be nice to know that there are fans out there that you didn't even know exsisted.!!

The good news for me is that there are at least 20 pieces in this gallery I've never seen!!!!

Ty for 5 years of inspiration, get going on another sculpture (you simply must), and I promise not to stalk you too much
