★ Name: Rain Ellis
★ Nickname/Alias: None at the moment - go ahead and give him a few!
★ Dreamer Type: Deceased Dreamer
★ Gender: Cisgender male
★ Age: 18
★ Birthday: March 12
★ Personality:
Due to his having spent much of his time growing up indoors with few people to interact with other than his tutor and sister, Rain has an odd mix of traits that reflect both his lack of social experience and natural eagerness. He's a fast learner and very enthusiastic when it comes to just about everything, and this combination makes him quite clever and witty - well, when he wants to be. Most of the time, however, Rain acts more compassionate and is somewhat naïve as well, often forgetting to use his head when things get serious. While is a romantic at heart, this and his tendency to be touchy-feely leads to several flaws of his: he can come off as clingy or overaffectionate, especially to a partner who prefers not to be touched. He is also prone to moody, self-piteous periods, often filled with as many methods of escapism as he can get his hands on, and needs to be shaken out of them or he'll remain in that state for days. On that happy note, Rain is very physically clumsy and oblivious to the feelings of those around him, especially when they are regarding him. (If you have a crush on him, you'll have to take the initiative - there's a good chance he won't notice your affection as being more than platonic!) In a relationship, he is more likely to be submissive,
★ History:
Adopted at a young age by two caring parents, Rain spent the first few years of his life growing up in a relatively normal fashion. His mother and father were not able to have children and therefore felt it best to care for an adopted child as well as they could; thus Rain matured in a stable home with plenty of love and care. Around the time of his fifth birthday, however, he was surprised with the addition of a younger sister to their little family. Both parents were getting busier as time went on and, in addition to wanting a daughter as well as a son, didn't want Rain to be too lonely on his own, and so Mizuki, a Japanese girl roughly one year younger than Rain, was introduced. Although she was barely able to speak English at the time, she and Rain hit it off immediately, becoming best friends for (the remainder of Rain's) life.
Years passed and the two siblings grew closer. Mizuki became fluent in English and even taught Rain some Japanese, which he cherished as a special way of speaking to his sister in her first language. Everything was going well until, of course, it wasn't.
At about the age of eight or nine, Rain began to be struck with intense headaches, dizzy spells, vision problems, and even problems with walking, continuing until he finally fainted during the middle of a gym class and had to be hospitalized. As a result, the entire family moved to a small valley town (much to the despair of Rain, who felt terribly guilty about his illness forcing them all to move) well known for its fresh air and beautiful scenery by the banks of a large river.
Life went on still, and while Mizuki found herself becoming more assertive and outgoing, Rain seemed to retreat inwards, becoming increasingly introverted unless around people he trusted and clinging desperately to the time he was able to spend with family and tutors. He was too fragile to still attend any schools outside of the home, and no kids in the neighborhood wanted to be friends with the weird sick kid. As a truly desperate, last-ditch effort, Mizuki introduced him to the wonderful world of otome games, stating that at the very least, if Rain was going to spend all day moping around on his computer, he might as well do so while in the name of romance (with the added bonus of making choices that would force him to consider the feelings of others, at least in-game.)
In between long periods of unhappiness and mood swings, they provided a tiny window of escapism that allowed Rain to pretend for a little bit that he was normal, that he was functional, that he wasn't sitting around all day and being a burden on his family, that maybe someone would ever actually like him as more than a friend. His parents and Mizuki were supportive and truly did their best, but it wasn't the same as having real friends and interactions other than those three and the tutors who frequented the house for lessons.
He was snapped back into reality several months after his eighteenth birthday by two things: first, Mizuki staging a very necessary intervention, and second, the thrilling news that years of varied treatments were finally paying off. Rain was showing signs of recovery after almost ten years, and the idea of finally being able to go out into the "real world" thrilled him enough to shock him out of his sheltered mess of self-pity. He hadn't been anywhere outside the little valley town in the years since they'd moved there and was preparing eagerly for a trip he'd be taking with his father once the summer had arrived as a sort of "test run".
And then, once again, disaster struck all at once.
Ironically enough, the spring that year had been unusually heavy in - you guessed it - rain. So much rain, in fact, that numerous records were broken, to the point where the beautiful river that ran by the edge of the town flooded and damaged many of the homes in the valley. Mizuki was out at her school at the edge of town on higher ground, while both parents were out of town for the day working harder than ever in order to provide Rain a good start for when he'd finally be able to leave their home illness-free. Poor, poor Rain was the only one still remaining in their home at the bottom of the valley, and he was the only casualty of the entire town.
The crystal clear waters of the river were flowing dark brown and moving rapidly throughout the rows of houses. Bits of rubble already torn from buildings and streets were an unwelcome addition to the swirling waters, smashing into the sides of some buildings and missing the entirety of others. Some houses were lucky enough to escape any major damage, while others were completely decimated.
The Ellis home fell into the second category. Mizuki had watched in horror from the classroom window as the water rose far, far higher than it was supposed to, knowing that her dear brother and best friend was still at home and completely unable to move fast enough to save himself.
The water was supposed to be blue, like her brother's beautiful eyes, but now instead it was red, with all that was left of him.
tl;dr: Rain was adopted with a younger sister, had a normal childhood, became ill with a disease that forced him to stay at home, and was about to recover when their town flooded and he drowned.
((HOPE THAT WASN'T TOO CLICHED OR OVERDRAMATIC AND I'M SORRY IF I CAUSED YOU PAIN BUT WHAT ELSE DID YOU EXPECT FROM ME))
