Bio:
Kohaku grew up as the only child of two successful travelling parents, his Chinese mother being an international nurse and his Japanese father working as an airline pilot. Although this meant that Kohaku grew up very well off, he often had to stay in his mother's sister's care, leaving him alone much of the time with his aunt, who also unfortunately had a heavy working schedule. As a child with hours of free time on his hands and numerous spare instruments in his aunt's attic, music became an outlet for all of the things Kohaku wished he could say but never did, being somewhat shy.
By his first year of middle school Kohaku had taught himself to be quite self-sufficient and was just fine being independent. Things began to change when the cheery, bouncy boy who'd moved into their neighborhood, Hideki Arata, knocked on Kohaku's door and introduced himself as Kohaku's new best friend.
Hideki and Kohaku grew very close over their time together, passing through all three years of middle school and the majority of high school as actual best friends, and, after several awkward epiphanies, boyfriends. Kohaku knocked on Hideki's door with his guitar in hand, blushing madly ((like the tsundere he is //shot)) and, looking away slightly, played an original song for him. They promised to be there for each other, to rely on each other, to trust each other. To be one another's worlds.
Kohaku's parents were thrilled that their seemingly introverted and only-interested-in-music only child had found himself a boyfriend (and such a charming one, too! oh, look at how cute they are together!), and Kohaku breathed a sigh of relief at his parents being okay with his bisexuality. Hideki and Kohaku were the adorable couple on the street sharing love-filled smiles and quiet giggles while holding hands, the couple that everyone thought would be together forever. By the time that they were about to go head off to university, Kohaku had two keys to their new apartment tucked into his pocket and nothing but Hideki on his mind.
And then Kohaku came into their new, perfect, just-for-them, shared apartment, and walked straight into Hideki on top of another girl.
He knew it had been coming, in some part of his mind that he pushed far away, perhaps. Hideki was popular and handsome and maybe even a little bit too flirtatious. But to go so far was absolutely too much.
Kohaku ignored every last desperate apology from Hideki and packed up his bags, moving away from the perfect little neighborhood that now housed so many memories. He thanked his aunt dearly and spent some of his savings to take a train to town of Amenity, hoping to attend the university nearby. The café was a convenient, blessed escape from thoughts of heartbreak and concerned parents and emotional walls, and Kohaku resides in the area of Café Central now. Although he's built up a few more walls around himself this time around, he has high goals for the little town of Amenity. He hopes to give himself a second chance here, keep in touch with some of his old friends from before his move, and meet some new friends and maybe even another special someone - a special someone who will treat him better and, hopefully this time around, Kohaku will get the happy ending he deserves.
Relationships:
romantic interest | friend | neutral/acquaintance for now| enemy/strong dislike
Hideki Arata - Kohaku's ex and best friend who cheated on him as they were moving into an apartment together. Kohaku will likely never forgive him for it fully, although he misses his best friend terribly.
"I trusted him...I really did. I doubt I'll ever love him like I did before, but I do miss him... (snorts) what a cliched line that was. Still, Hideki was my best friend for a very long time. It's hard to replace that. Part of me wants to say 'good riddance', but it's never that easy."
Mika - they met in the Soda Shack after she convinced him to play for the customers there. They share a sibling-like relationship, with Kohaku satisfying Mika's need for attention while also acting as a big brother/role model type figure.
"Mika's an interesting girl. She can be bratty and attention-seeking sometimes, but she means well. I think she's going to eat all of my roommate's candy."
Rose Rhu - the two of them were brought together by a strange sleepover invitation from Rose's uncle; despite their awkward meeting, they share many similar interests and get along well. Also they have a crack baby named Tsubaki //shot
"Oh, Rose...Spending time with her wasn't as awkward as I thought it would be. She's surprisingly understanding, and I think I trust her. Plus, she makes tea pretty damn well. And look who that's coming from."
Other:
Character song: For you/給你- amazarashi i bet you this nerd would absolutely love amazarashi. and the lyrics (click "album: antae") are just.
You make your own life by piling up your own mistakes
Stacking them one by one, we are like children playing with blocks
You can fall over like you do, you can stand up like you do
You don’t need anything else, you don’t need anything else
Now, wipe your tears, let’s laugh off our past
Isn’t that right, you’re in hard times now because you’re fighting, because you’re not running away
And because of that, there’s absolutely nobody that can blame you.
He'll probably be very subtly possessive of whomever he's in a relationship with ehehe
Headcanon singing voice: Eine Klein - Yuuto (Piano)
additional ref (flat colors only + palette + additional facial expressions for my own personal amusement) can be found HERE
I prefer lit rp very highly over script, although I'll go with that if you prefer. Notes, chatroom, and Skype are all okay with me owo
