Description
At the request of my grandma, I painted a cat she used to have named Tribble. Tribble was a Mothers Day gift from my grandpa back when my mom was still a teen, hence the sorta Mothers Day theme of this. Also, my grandma was a florist for a good (40?) years, so there's that. She was a Himalayan/Siamese mix that he got from a breeder. She was only two years old at the time and scared of everything. Unbeknownst to my grandpa, he had bought a pregnant cat, and she gave birth on Fathers Day. Over the years she grew more confident and (apparently) more affectionate until she blossomed into the bossy, crotchety old lady that I remember her as. She was 19 when she had to be put down due to cancer - I remember she had a tumor on her front leg that we had to keep constantly bandage because otherwise she'd chew it raw, and apparently because it was cancer, it never healed.
The cat herself turned out great, and I had a great time experimenting with more salt textures. Though if I could go back and redo anything in this picture, it'd be that tree in the background. I kiiiiiiind of hate the way it turned out and it's the only straight horizontal thing here which is pretty jarring. But whoops, Oh well.
To see the final thing next to the reference I used (which was not great but was the best picture they had of her) check out this tweet.
