i don't really know how to explain... i draw on other paper every shade of pencil. or i use a rubber to highlight a little piece. this is really simple

'cause every time I try to do a light shaded area, the pencil makes it black...no matter how soft I touch the pencil to the paper..

hm.. what pencil do you have? carbon or graphite?
i have both and i use only graphite, because carbon is very tander. with this one i can't draw a details.
