I just didn't understand WHY. It seemed so arbitrary, like an afterthough. You know "Oh, yeah, and I think I'll kill them." So sad.

Tell me about it! And their death wasn't onscreen, it was just like she thought it'd be great to kill them in passing.... I think such great characters should have had a lengthy description of their final moments! Especially because it was so much like James and Lily again; parents dying for their son.

But If you remember, James' and Lily's deaths were not onscreen either (a night before th start of book 1). However Rowling describes this as James dying in front of the room's door, then Lily dying while protecting Harry.

True, but she did eventually go into more detail of James and Lily's death in Book 7 (I think...) The Lupins never really go that.
