Man, I loved the character, Sunfire. It's ashame they didn't try to do more with the him. He had so much potential.In my version I wanted him to have an Emperor appeal. After all he was royalty.. .wasn't he?

how do you change the color of the outlines?

i drop color on top of the lines. for instance, his kimono's yellowish color is right ontop of the line. i lasso the whole figure on the outside line, not in the middle of the line or inside the line. hope that helps.

i'm guessing the color layer property is multiplied or something and the outline layer underneath is reduced in opacity. is that it?

yes i multiplied my lineart, but my pencils were not lowered in opacity for this drawing.

The pose and the composition are really great! As always, I love your colours too.
The only thing that is bothering me though is that there seems to be something odd with the sword handle and guard.

ay, sometimes the char's with the most potential go unnoticed.
I think i like how you were able to incorporate both a loose garb and a skin-tight suit ... lets you flex your work both ways... while it also gives a lot for the viewer to take in.
you still keep it simple tho... and elegant, in his stance on the stairs, and the view from the bottom.

sunfire's not a character I have indepth knowledge about. Looks damn cool though. The sword is bad ass, my nerdy ass thought it was a jedi at first.

Kyla was right about the sheathe though....it's a bit too short....or maybe it's like that to show off his awesome sword? the neckline make it look like the entire outfit is like painted on him. instead of emperor appeal, i feel the spirit of samuriel. Actually, I'm not sure the streotype of busheido on Sun Fire is nice or not since the superheros and heroines of non-white community are suffering from restrictions, bias and streotypes. I don't know why Chinese/Japanese/THai heros/heroines can only be kung fu masters, swordsmen or thai kick-boxers while the personlaities must be stict to their traditions adn a bit hostel to western modernizations. I'm not sure about Japanese and Thai, but mainland Chinese, Taiwanese and Hong Kong-CHinese are not that way. Anyway, nice art

In the Mid 90s, Lucasarts came out with a wicked adventure game by the name of "FULL THROTTLE"
whenever i see your drawing style i can imagine the full throttle characters.
My request (in that i think it would be awesome to see) is "Ben" the leader of the Polecats biker gang...

Great pic. Sunfire's identity is unknown, except to the Japanese government. I have the comic in which he first joins the X-men at Xaviers bidding to rescue the original X-men from an evil sentient island, along with (then) new recruits Wolverine, Storm, Colossus, Nightcrawler, and Banshee (among others). Unfortunately, I think Sunfire is dead now. Don't know why they killed him, except that his costume design sucks.
I'd prefer if they designed him the way you did, except make his kimono super-heat resistant like his current suit. And it would be awesome if he used his katana along with his heat powers.

they're simply called sword belts.
I think the sword fits properly, the belt is only fractionally smaller, and it does seem like it is pointed backwards.
