I'm hopelessly into the characters created by , really! I can't help but be inspired by fayt's creations, especially the demon-slaying sisters Misa and Kyoko. (And most recently Haigo Footsie!) You'll be seeing plenty of art and stories on my part, always with the approval of the Deviant responsible!

fayt even feels my works so far are 'official' for Slayers, which is really awesome! I'm not the only one inspired by him, though! Fellow Deviant is in love with fayt's creations too and wants to support fayt in building his Slayers universe with stories and art of her own, and she's done a lot! Check out KoDraCan, especially if you're into XNALara and you've been looking for some great models!

For my part I imagined a brief history of the main setting of Slayers of Demon City 7, Misa and Kyoko's home, the Island of the Tokyo Kingdom. Again with fayt's blessing, I bring you now a Japan very different from the one you know. I also present the roots of the conflict between mortals and demons and how the Slayers, gifted by the Heavens, came to be to defend the Earth. Sit back and read...!

A brief history of the Tokyo Kingdom!

Since the start of mortal history, the Tokyo Kingdom has been one of many countries that have been constant flashpoints in the neverending conflict between Earth and the Demonkind.

The archipelago was a part of the region called the Pacific Rim, a massive junction of the four elements that embody the planet: water, earth, wind and fire! The Dark Gods of chaos and torment knew that to control those primal forces meant control of the Earth! The Gods of the Heavens, on behalf of The Creator, responded and launched into conflict with the Demonkind to prevent that for the sake of their mortal children, Humanity, and their world!

For ages gods walked the earth in the defense of the mortals they loved...in the land that would one day be known as the Tokyo Kingdom, during the age of Genji and the birth of the samurai:

At first, the greatest allies of the Divine on Earth were the Dragons who represented and were empowered by the elements. But then, one of the holy pantheon decided that mortals would be able and strong defenders of good and justice, as well. And so the goddess Amaterasu blessed several of the most noble and just warrior families with a connection to the Heavens themselves, giving them the gift of holy strength and endurance for their mortal bodies and eternal souls...that gift would also be passed on to their heirs for as long as the netherregions threatened the Earth!

Amaterasu empowered the very first of those who would be known as Slayers...ordinary mortals who made the island their home called their amazing heroes Vanquishers! Gods of other religions and cultures were so inspired, they followed Amaterasu's lead! The Divine also gifted their mortal defenders against the Demonkind with holy weapons to aid them...for instance the great Muramasa, named after its maker...and the Sephiroth, forged from a piece of the armor of Bishamon, the noble god of war. These weapons were blessings given to the greatest warriors of two respected and heroic families: the Sephiroth to the Asagi, and the Muramasa to the Yamaguchi!

Eventually, the Gods of Light and Life left the mortal world in mortal hands...it was a change that was virtually destined to happen because mortalkind was growing so independent, more and more advanced. The drive and desire growing within Humanity to choose their own destiny was so great, the holy gods respected that and swore never to interfere again, but only as long as the Dark Gods retreated, as well. The lords of infinite shadow knew they would lose against the superior power of the Light and returned to their proper place. The Divine retired to the infinite Heavens and commanded their Dragons to enter a peaceful sleep until they were needed again. Unfortunately, the ambition of the Demonkind was relentless, and while they didn't continue to affect the Earth directly, nothing stopped the Gods of Chaos from sending their demonic minions to Earth to do their vile work and continue to invade and trouble the mortal realm in the name of its conquest!

Thankfully, the holy Slayers proved to be more than a formidable defense against the dark forces in the name of the Heavens!

Time marched on...the future Kingdom's society advanced, yet still held to their most cherished traditions. The country once and for all unified at the end of the Warring States Period after the destruction of mortal warlords like Mitsuhide Akechi and the Demon King Nobunaga Oda who worshipped the dark gods! In those ways and others, the peoples' Vanquishers served their people with distinction and valor as the country became a single, stable Kingdom! The Demonkind continued to plague the Kingdom and all of the Earth with terrifying incursions and strategems that often influenced and even changed the course of mortal history across the world.

One part of the Tokyo Kingdom afflicted the worst by demonic terror over history was a coastal city dangerously close to the Imperial Palace itself. This city, once important as a major port and waypoint of the region's main trade route, went through many changes along with the rest of the country with the passage of time. One thing that didn't change was its importance to the Demonkind...to completely destabilize or dominate it would be an important step in paving the way toward conquering nearby Chiyoda, the current seat of the country's government and the Emperor in the core of what is now called the Greater Tokyo Area, aka the National Capital Region.

This port city's dubious status, having been threatened by the forces of darkness constantly through history, made mortals long ago call it Akuma No Machi Seben -- or in English, Demon City 7!

Then in the 20th Century, one of the most insidious of schemes on the part of the dark forces led to the Tokyo Kingdom's involvement in World War II.

Many believed Adolf Hitler had sold his soul to the Devil to gain his leadership over the nation he remolded in his image, Germany, and increasingly threaten the rest of the world...and they had no idea how right they were! As his Nazi war machine committed travesties in order to increase their might in black mysticism, the Fuhrer lured leaders of other nations to become part of his Axis. He drew the ambitious Mussolini, the brutal Stalin, the cold Empress Dowager of the Chinese Dynasty...

...and with deliberate cunning and seduction, the Emperor of the Tokyo Kingdom at the time was also corrupted, shamefully of his own free will...most of the royalty was slowly, systematically turned to serve the forces of darkness in turn!

Not even the Vanquishers were aware of that diabolical shift until it was far too late! The Emperor's younger brother, the next in line of succession to the leadership, was nearly killed in an assassination attempt and forced to flee the Kingdom. The leaders began building up the country's military forces with the most advanced weapons of war of the age and ordered the dissolution of the samurai and the Order of Vanquishers -- any family of warriors who did not give up their ways that 'held back and undermined the progress of our kingdom' were threatened with prison or even death if they didn't obey! The Vanquishers, realizing how terribly wrong things had become, went into hiding to figure out what to do next...they held duty and obligation sacred, like all their fellow citizens, and knew by defying royal orders they would be declared traitors of the Kingdom!

Worse, the Tokyo Kingdom's armed forces were being prepared to strike out at an unsuspecting country in a matter of weeks on behalf of the Axis...discovering this because of officials in the royal palace who risked their lives to bring the information to the heroes they believed in, the Vanquishers had little choice but to leave their beloved land and reach out to their fellow Slayers across the world! They gave warning that the Tokyo Kingdom was about to unleash an unprovoked attack, and fortunately that warning was delivered to the right people barely in time. Thanks to the Vanquishers, the United States of America's naval forces at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii were on full alert and prepared on the morning of December 7, 1941. The pilots of the Kingdom's fighter squadrons were uneasy and reluctant as they flew across the Pacific toward their target...they were attacking forces they knew weren't their enemies, yet their duty to leaders they still didn't realize were hopelessly corrupt came first!

Unfortunately, that meant most of their deaths in a complete rout of those squadrons by the readied forces stationed at Pearl Harbor...what could have been a day of infamy was indeed tragic, but only for the Kingdom!

The Vanquishers and Slayers combined promised their support to the Allied Nations against their common enemies, both mortal and eternal...but the Vanquishers asked for only one thing in return. They didn't want their people to suffer for the corruption of their leaders, and the Tokyo Kingdom needed to be freed from the evil Emperor and all of those officials also so corrupted...his brother in exile had to take his place and restore the country's honor! It took months of careful preparation, but in July of 1942, Vanquishers working with fellow Slayers from the U.S. and Britain stole into the very heart of the capital city of Tokyo itself and in a bold stroke exposed the corrupted leaders! The outrage from the citizens was immediate and touched off a bloody uprising that ended one week later with the executions of the evil officials and their demonic collaborators!

The brother was safe to succeed his late and unmourned sibling and took his rightful seat at the Chrysanthemum Throne. The Kingdom had a true and noble Emperor again who immediately reinstated the samurai and his peoples' Vanquishers. He also swore the Kingdom would join the Allies against the forces that nearly brought his people to ruin!

The Vanquishers and all of their fellow Slayers led the way to conquer the Demonkind supporting the Axis as the greatest generation of ordinary soldiers of the Allied Nations gave their all to win the war!

Ever since, Slayers have kept a quiet yet much stronger watch over many leaders of the world to ensure such manipulations by the dark forces would never happen again. However, even the holiest warrior couldn't help it when some heads of state were inevitably, naturally seduced by their own greed and other base desires. It was true that mortal flesh was weak!

The Island of the Tokyo Kingdom has stood proud and with honor ever since the Second World War into the current age. The role of the samurai had changed to become the honor guard of the land's royalty and ministers...the Kingdom's defense shifted to conventional yet highly advanced military power in the form of its Defense Force, and the protection of the citizens was left to the dedicated and just men and women of the police in its many prefectures. Unfortunately, the Tokyo Kingdom is still one of the most troubled parts of the world because of the dark gods' focus on conquest in ways both sublime and horrifying. Demon City 7 itself, a part of the largest and most populous metropolis on Earth, is still plagued by the Demonkind and their mortal agents. Yet the citizens know their land is also under the protection of their beloved demon slayers, who are prepared to give their best to defend the innocent and exterminate evil. In fact, two young Vanquishers may well be destined to be the greatest Slayers of all!

They are Misa and Kyoko Asagi, the daughters of the late Vanquishers Mitsuhide Asagi and his wife Ai...their mother was the last descendant of the Yamaguchi, and so the girls inherited the fabled swords the Muramasa and the Sephiroth. The older sister Kyoko has already become a legend in her own time even so young, and it's believed her imoute Misa could become just as extraordinary. For their kingdom, for justice and the Heavens themselves, they swore their lives to carry on the legacy they inherited from their parents and ancestors since the Age of Genji to destroy evil!

The world will know them as the SLAYERS OF DEMON CITY 7!
