He neglected to tell me that when we he partnered up with me.

Vellen's species has the ability to partner up with a member of another species that is humanoid in some way. The ability really depends on who is partnered with you. Vellen knows ability copy which allows me to copy abilities and weapons to a lesser extent. But this requires an element like lightning, fire, or darkness. Basically an energy based element. My element is darkness and this allows me to use ability copy.
