Digital Painting of Tilly, an Orca from Sea World Florida
Painted in Photoshop CS5, using a reference from a friend, with her permission.
About 8 hours of work.
Please note that I don't have time to say "thank you" for every favourite, but I appreciate them all nonetheless! Thank you all for your support!!!

I was lucky enough to have some fantastic reference photos from a friend of mine who took a recent trip to SeaWorld. She had some truly wonderful shots of Tilly with a trainer at the window. I really couldn't help but see the resemblance between Tilly and Ike
I got to work quickly on this, but slowed down a lot midway. I haven't painted anything cetacean related in months... actually, since August! Kinda difficult to get back into it. I'll need to practice some more

I was really looking forward to how you were going to approach this when I read you were going to use it as a reference! It looks absolutely fantastic. I'm sure you enjoyed the fact that he had his tongue hanging out, hehe. The definition on his dorsal fin is particularly well done.

Thank you Jen! I was hoping it would be better actually... I was originally planning on doing something with Tilly and Ike in the same painting... both with their tongues hanging out... but I really struggled getting back into painting cetaceans. Wound up just getting Tilly finished and then giving up. Maybe I'll get back to it at some point. Thanks again!

Wow this is beautiful! Looks very real. How did you do the reflections on his back? I always have trouble getting reflections right so i give up most of the time lol.

Thank you so much! I've done the reflections a variety of ways in different paintings. Sometimes I just freehand it, using a pale brush, going over certain parts again and again, and smudging like crazy... in this case, I totally wimped out and used a "water webbing brush" that I made myself. Really saves some time
