Finally done! I'm slowly getting better, it only took two weeks and...*counts*...35 WIP files this time! Background isn't fantastic, but I only spent like five minutes on it because the Absol turned out really, really nice and I wanted to submit him.Made using pencils, computer paper, Photoshop CS5, and GIMP. Final product is an integration of the pencil drawings with digital outlines and enhancement.
The rock he's standing on was derived from a photo of a fist-sized chunk of rough jasper I had lying around.
An anime screenshot was used as a reference to get the pose and proportions of the body right.
This Absol is named Zarku, and is one of the main characters in my fanfic, "Tales of an Aura Guardian." All chapters can be found here: [link]

I was picturing ur absol like this -
standing on a cliff that is black because the moon behind him is shining so brightly and the light hits him from behind while his horns and eyes glow red/black (I was kinda picturing it shiny XD), and his head is lowered down while eyes R looking up (and at us), almost ready to jump of the cliff and hunt for some pokemon >

the reason the rock seems like I just took a pic and put it over where the rock should be is because that's exactly what I did

Heheh, I wish you were around when I was designing his character. Unfortunately his eye color is stuck the way it is. I've already made a number of references to his "intense crimson gaze" in my fanfic.

I use gimp and photoshop cs5 but I'm still figuring everything out. I haven't been art-ing very long xD
Also have illustrator, but no clue whatsoever how to use it.

xD illustrator?....hm...havent heard of it o.o also photoshop is quite the s***! and then i mean in a good way XD - u should try to lineart with it and color in gimp if u have problems coloring in photooshop since sometimes photoshop can lag -__-' thats why i draw in sai - i feel more comfortable there <3 XD also i started some months ago

Well, I don't have sai, i'll need to see what the student price is for it. Haven't had much problems with photoshop lagging, though, I have a very powerful computer.

No problem! Its always Nice to hear that someone likes your work, the only thing i would work on improving in is the texture on the rock, it looks too much like a stamp, but the actual drawing is fantastic!

yeah. This picture and the other pokemon pics I have here really aren't great indicators of my current skill level since most of them draw heavily on reference materials or are modified tracings. Pretty soon I'll be trying a picture of a vaporeon using my cat as a reference, that should be a better test of my skills.
I tried to do a freehand vaporeon at one point....the result was "GAAAH! F*CK! WHAT ARE YOU?!" and I deleted it from my gallery.

Yeah, i have to admit the only things I can draw free hand are wolves, i always use a couple of referances to draw with, Usually dogs, because of their similarity to the pokemon I draw and then I have a fewof the pokemon so I can see the Proportions clearly.
Its very hard to draw free hand I think!

hmmm...I don't know shadow, but Zarku is extremely powerful. Level 100, and knows a slew of devastating moves.

Ow--Shadow is my Absol from Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Red , and he's level 51 (though his evasiveness is actually pretty high, which is odd, though his Defense is a bit choppy).
I thought it'd be cool (even if Shadow lost) that they both could go at it.

Well, I'll definitely need to put in an Absol-on-Absol battle at some point, but right now I have no plans for one. Send me his stats and moveset in a note, I'll hold the idea in reserve. You can put as many moves as you want, btw, in my story there's no limit. If the opportunity to use it presents itself, I'll let you know.

And thanks for considering it and hanging onto it until you feel like making it. However, if you do choose to make it, then I would suggest this to you:
Shadow is reserved and makes no enemies except ones that attack his friends and teammates, so he possibly couldn't be a rival unless your Absol had a different temperament.

okay then, I'll keep that in mind. This really is helpful, actually, because I'm basically making things up as I go here.
Absol are dark-types, and I've already written a scene in which Zarku says that they draw their power from a great well of evil. Absol can usually maintain enough control to keep this power from overwhelming them, but if one suffers a great emotional trauma, their dark side can take over. I could use this to explain why a calm, controlled Pokemon like Shadow would get into a fight with Zarku. Then instead of making him a rival, I can make him an old childhood friend.
I promise I'll work this in. I even have an idea of how to do it. It'll probably just take a little while to get to it, as there's a LOT of other stuff going on right now both in the plotline of the story and in my life.

And I totally agree with you on the whole 'power-crazy' attitude...I'd think that Shadow would become non-responsive towards his childhood friend IF they were to clash, and after a lot of trauma and damage, Shadow could possibly faint from exhaustion, and the power would die.

At some point I'm planning to make a chapter where Zarku visits his family and friends on Mt. Silver where he grew up. It would fit in well there.
