In this Photoshop tutorial I take a look at creating realistic metal surfaces. First we create three custom brushes: metal, scratch, and rust. Then we apply them each on a few spheres and then end it off with a metal cookie sphere incorporating all three.The tutorial video is no longer available, but the brushes are available Here

Lovely tutorial; I realize it's old, but it was nice seeing different techniques of making brushes. Β
One thing though -- have you started using clipping layers rather than laying masks? Β
