Description Finally, we're back home.
With these thoughts she watched them from a small distance. Small enough to hear their cries of joy and the muffled whispers from tight embraces, but far enough to distance herself for a bit.

Lisanna.

She had only seen her in pictures, as a ten-year-old-girl with short snowy hair and blue crystal eyes, but she could tell it wouldn't be hard to befriend her at all. They were so alike, bubbly and friendly and joyful. But still so different.

Lucy had always thought herself to be shy at first meetings, mainly because she needed to analyze new persons. Her past had left her standing on her toes and she could not lean on just anyone after all.
Hugging herself and allowing a small smile pull her pale lips upwards she watched as the four childhood friends huddled together in a small circle, grinning and laughing in pure euphoria.

I wonder if things will be different now…?
Her shoulders shrunk a bit and the familiar taste of bitterness filled her mouth.
Silly girl, of course they will.
She was no replacement, she knew, but who was she to push between reunited friends?
Fool, you're only thinking of one.
I wonder if he'll be different now?
This was so un-Lucy. She never allowed herself to wallow in sorrow, not after mama had been taken. But when the thought of lonely, dragon slayerness evenings and nights in her empty apartment flooded into her mind the taste of bitterness forced it's way down her throat, slowly floating forwards.
He wouldn't.

With that she tried to shrug it off, but without success. So she turned her back to her team and allowed her eyes to roam the grey sky and the horizon. Fog was rising to greet them.
That's when she spotted them.
Two figures, shadowed by the looming trees, forgotten in an embrace.
A father and a daughter. A parent and a child. One of the strongest bonds two people can have.
Supposedly.
As they parted Canas tear drenched, smiling face and Gildarts affection filled eyes were the only things she saw as the barrier broke and memories rushed free.

''Do something useful for one!''
'' With our name comes great responsibility!''
'' Don't you dare cry! We do not show our weakness to the ones below us.''
'' Don't bother me anymore…''
'' You shall be of age soon and this means only one thing-''
'' I forbid you to use those keys!''
'' Stay there until you learn to do what you're told!''
'' You're a pest, Lucy!''

The bitterness traveled to her heart and clenched it in it's icy hold.

--y.
--ucy?
Lucy.

Who? Who are you calling?
Because it can't be me. I am not the Lucky Lucy Heartfilia. Nor am I the Lucy of Fairy Tail.
I'm just a bitter little girl who never learned to love and trust, who never got let in…
''Lucy!''

And she saw again.

She was still in the forest, now surrounded by a thick fog. And when had it started to rain? Why was her face wet, was she still facing the sky?
'' Why are you crying, Luce?'' A soft voice murmured from her right.
Crying? No, what nonsense are you saying? How could I be crying when everything's finally okay now. There is no reason for me to--
But her gaze was on the ground. It could not be rain so it had to be tears. But why? Those memories were nothing to cry over.
'' N-Natsu?''
'' Mm?''
'' I'm not—I'm not a pest, am I?'' Her voice broke, just a bit. Maybe he didn't notice.
'' Haah? Whatte hell are you saying, Luce? Sheesh, it's prolly the cold getting to you. You should wear more clothers,'' Natsu chuckled.
'' Wh-what? Idiot! This was your idea in the first place, remember? I never would've been in this get up if yo—''
'' Fiiiine, I know I know. Just put this on already, Lucy,'' he said while offering her his cape, the one belonging to The Great Demon-Lord Dragneel. With a slightly pink shade covering her cheeks, she allowed Natsu to wrap the cape around her slender shoulders, trying to fight the guestions of uncertainty threatening to roll of her tongue.
But she couldn't fight the blush when her best friends warm hand brushed against the sensitive skin of her neck.

Natsu must've known she needed more than a friendly gesture to reassure her unsettled mind. Fighting a blush of his own, he slowly slid his fingertips down on Lucys arm and clasped her hand thightly, frowning upon the fact that her smaller hand was way too icy.
Rising his body temperature Natsu muttered;
'' Why would you ever think you're a pest, Lucy? Look around, do you see anyone here disapproving you?'' Lucy knew he was serious from the lack of her nickname in his sentence.
'' Everyone here loves you. You're Lucy, Lucy of Fairy Tail and no one else, so don't you go thinking bad about yourself 'cause honestly Luce, I don't know where you pull out those false bad sides, I'm your best friend and I've never seen any of them,'' His trademark grin settled the deal with a squeeze from his hand.

'' You're special Luce, to everyone'' – to me – '' And don't you ever forget about that!'' Now, instead of tears, Lucys face held a grin that could give Natsu a run for his money. Because after all, she was the Lucy of Fairy Tail and he was the Natsu of Fairy Tail. And someday she'd tell him how much more he was to her.

And with that, the icy hold of the bitterness was replaced with a warm fire of life.
