Genderless fairies? That does make some sense, but at the same time an argument could be made that they are female due to being part of nature. All things in nature are inherently female until a need arises to reproduce (literally the plot device of Jurassic Park).

I've always assumed as Asexual beings that spawn from nature they lacked reproductive organs and only identified as either gender if they wanted too.
