Scenario and Objective:
Vogue is creating a feature article inspired by the Chinese astrological signs. It will feature fashion, costumes, and illustrations from the world's talented designers and contestants of FashionFUSE.
What they ask for
2 Beautiful, intricate, praiseworthy, astrologically-inspired illustrations. These can be of ready-to-wear, haute couture, or costumes for women. But please no deliberate costumes of the symbolic animals.
Technical stuff to consider
Your illustrations will each fill one page in the magazine. No borders. No text.
Selected Sign: Dragon (and Hare)
Description:
The Dragon is characterized to be elegant, "maganimous", accomplished, proud and confident - never to be unrecognized by its beauty and confidence. I hope i was able to incorporate these qualities to the garment in my own interpretation.
The red top is sequined silk chiffon as well as the gold portions on the low waist and knee level of the skirt. The skirt comprises mainly of cascading silk tulle. The bottom portion is silk chiffon.
The Hare design...ill try my best to make it in time.

This is a very interesting design! The colours remind me of Robin, though - y'know, Batman's sidekick. Intentional or coincidence?

While I absolutely love the garment, I think the pose is a little bit off for your description of what a dragon should represent. She's leaned over forward which makes it seem like she's protecting herself, pulling back to shield herself instead of throwing herself out there. The shoulders slumped forward also give that impression along with a lack of confidence.
The hairstyle is a good choice since it is pulled back and forces the wearer to expose their face to the public, but I would have liked to see something more done with the hair. The bottom of the dress is very outgoing and flashy but as you look the model up from her feet there's nothing left to see as the dress itself gets very plain and then the hairstyle is also very normal. I think if you're going to keep the top of the dress toned down (and I love it just the way it is) you need something more with the hair to balance it out.
Overall, I really love the dress, for me the criticism is for the model, which can be just as important as the dress. What happened with the competition?

the competition, unfortunately, ended...due to lack of participation and activeness of the contestants...im sure the reasons were reasonable!

Very nice design, I do love the color choice.. looking at the design my first thought was "chinese" before I ever read the text.
A very original design and definitely outstanding!
Just one thing.. I wouldn't wanna actually sew it with all the ruffles

I think that you did a really good interpretation of the dragon. The 3 colors you chose deffinetely match, and the richness of the skirt does too.
