Yeah definately, ur right there Mr Dragon. It just goes to show that less really is more. Yeah it's nice to do fully rendered pieces but sometimes, especially in some of my paintings, the characters can sometimes disappear and blend into the BG.
If every part of a piece is rendered in the same way it can look really fussy. It's just like seeing through ur eyes. Not everything is in focus at once. Even when u take a photo, some BG elements become simplified in a way. You loose information, and details.
I really want to start doing more like this with my work. It's just really find it hard sometimes to say 'STOP! That's enough detail' but inevitably I carry on for another 8 hours.
This is a great piece. It's all drawn by the same hand so it retains it's style, but the color is more vibrant in the foreground and less saturated in the BG. Just like using the Hue/Sat feature in P'Shop. It feels weighty in the fore, even though the central figure is hovering.
Good choice of coloring too. The BG is cool, and even cold in places. Then you're suddenly warmed up by the little girls hair.
