Description
As we remember and mourn those who fought,
We salute them and thank them for their service.
I remember my own family that served their country,
And I bow my head in respect for their sacrifice.

But for a good number of years,
This day had another meaning to it for me.
It was the day I met someone very important to me.
Someone who I'll not soon forget...

How could I forget the day we met?
The way our eyes met in the dark?
Our lips rife with riddles in shyness,
A desperate search to find each other.

Remember how when we saw the light,
We fell for each other in love at first sight?
How we watched each other from far away,
I’ll never forget that Veterans Day.

The day I met you was the luckiest ever,
From that day on, nobody could sever,
The bond we had or the memories we shared.
Though it took me a while to prove that I cared.

I’ll never forget that way that we laughed,
I love how you were positively daft.
The way you giggled and the way we cried.
You made me feel so very alive.

You made my life worth living again,
I loved you infinity times ten.
I wanted to give you the world on a platter…
But now that you’re gone, what the hell does it matter?

I didn’t mean to drive you away.
You know I meant well, I wish you had stayed.
I know I took too much for granted…
But the evenings we shared we just so enchanted.

I know you needed a friend that day,
Before you up and moved away.
But whatever you need me to be, I’ll be it!
I’d make it all better, I just wish you could see it.

I want to be there when you’re feeling lost.
I want to be there, no matter the cost.
I think we all know what I’m going to say…
I’d give anything for you to be in my life today…

Doesn’t matter as what, and it doesn’t matter where.
I’d give my left arm for you to be there.
I know that I’m crazy and pushing my luck,
But without you in my life, it all really sucks.

I wish you could see how much you mean,
To me, you’re a Hatter and not a Red Queen.
Everything that we’ve been through was magic at best.
I’d say what went wrong, but you know the rest.
I’d give anything for you to be with me today,
As a friend or a lover, it’s your choice to say.
Just anything that will keep our friendship at bay…
But for now, I'll remember...on Veterans Day.
