Just color pencils? it looks like you used a wash underneath the colors. The way the light and shadows bring out the creature is simply amazing.

Actually I used colored pencils- Prismacolor, I got a set of 120 for Christmas, I figured I should use them more.
I did touch it up in photoshop, because scanned colored pencils never look as good as they do in real life.
