Description Hey everyone!

After 6 years I finally decided I'd give another try to digital art! Thanks to Martith I heard about FireAlpaca, a digital drawing software, similar to Paint Tool Sai (PTS). The thing is, as a Mac user I can't use PTS so this was the perfect alternative! Thank you so much Martith

ABOUT THE PAINTING:
This was the first time I seriously drew digitally. I tried it 6 years ago but I was very young and didn't quite understood how to work with GIMP and I couldn't do a thing XD I hope you like this artwork! It took me around 8 hours maybe since I wasn't familiar with the software and had never really worked with something like this before. Besides, I used an unpolished lineart as base, which I knew it wasn't the perfect setting for a beginner ahah Well, given all that I think I'm very happy with the outcome. I used a sketch I had of Tracer (From Overwatch), which you can check out Here

I chose to paint the head and the top part of the jacket only because initially I drew only those parts and coloured them. After that I thought it'd be nice to add the rest of the top part of the body since I already had the line art.
The blue background was inspired on Tracer's trademark color (Electric blue and orange, I chose to use the blue only).

Hope you like this!   And if you read all this, you're awesome! ^^

Hello I'm here from *cracks knuckles and puts down overwatch to write this*.
Just a little disclaimer: I say what I think and don't sugar coat anything because I feel that if I don't, you won't get as much out of it. Don't take any of my comments (if they're negative) personally, that's what critiques are all about

Let me start by saying that for the first time drawing digitally this is great! You have really clean line work and it comes across beautifully. Sometimes in the shading, in particular the hair, the lines aren't as crisp but it doesn't stand out poorly unless your overanalyzing like I am now. Just something to think about. I do think that the hair is the best part though, I like how you drew all shades coming from the central point and it is evident by the darkest shades.  It's really clean and I think adds an extra "umph" in the picture.  I noticed that you used colored lines for your lineart but stopped at the end of the neck, I personally would have liked to see more of that. Also, this might be personal preference but I tend to make the lines always darker than what it is surrounding. For example, the hair lines are lighter than the hair itself.  To each his/her own though  Some other things I'd like to see in the future are more dynamic lighting scenarios. I don't know if you plan on continuing digital art (which you totally should based on this entry), but digital art is a great way to experiment with shading so I think you should try it out. Different lighting angles and having tri or quad shading can really elevate a piece.
For more on all of this, see: Normal vs my shading  and especially Facial Shading  for a better sense about how lighting can affect the mood (which I talk about below).

Compared to your drawing that you provided, I see that this one has a more "realistic" feel to it. Nothing wrong with that but since the original was a bit more stylized (in particular the eyes), make sure it translates well to the new style. For example, Tracer's eyes aren't really focused on a specific target like the drawing was. Maybe its the placement or the size of the eyes but something is a bit off, perhaps try to work on expressions to and how they relate to various facial features in order to get aa different sense on that. Facial expressions/features coupled with proper lighting can lead to a powerful piece.
For more on this, try some challenges like these in order to practice! Vera Expressions  Expressions  and take notes on informational pieces like Expressions help

I also noticed that for the bottom part of the clothes you ditched shading and decided to do a sketchy black lined style. There isn't anything wrong with that I just don't think that they mesh well together. I'd much rather see you go the extra mile and stick to the same style, thus unifying the whole thing.

All in all, I like this piece, and based on your gallery I see that this is a refreshing change of pace for you and it's always nice to see that.  Try experimenting, try new things, be bold and stick with it! I like what you're doing and hope to see more from you in the future!

Hello First of all, THANK YOU SO MUCH! You took your time to write such a big and helpful feedback! Thank you ^^
I'm glad you didn't sugar coated anything because I feel that a constructive critique can really help understand what you can improve, even if you enjoy receiving compliments related to the piece, feedback is super important!

I'm very glad with the way the hair turned out! I really think that it is such an iconic feature of Tracer and I wanted to get it right You're correct, normally you color the hair lineart with a darker tone but I kinda enjoyed the way it turned out with a lighter one instead so I kept it that way ^^

Shading, lighting and doing even eyes (and expressions in general) are some of the things on my "To improve" list. I saw the artworks you linked me to and I think that they will be very interesting exercises and good references so thank you very much!

I did not plan to do the colored Vs sketch part. I started by doing only the lineart of the head to experiment with the software but then it felt strange having like a floating head on the screen so I used my sketch and did the rest of the lineart. Since I started exam season just of now I did not have much time (this was done in 8h in around 3 days). I really wanted to post the artwork and listen to other people opinions on it since it was the first time I was doing digital art. I do plan on doing a fully colored version but it will take a bit of time to come out XD

I have a Mononoke Hime piece I'm working now where I went with a more realistic way of coloring. It should be coming out maybe next week During my break time I'm now trying out different softwares and techniques so I have a feeling that these two pieces will look very different XD

Once again, thank you so much for your time and I will keep doing both digital and traditional art!

I thought it was quite simple to work with Ohh, I see. The tablet really helps but I'm sure that with a steady hand you'll be able to do cool stuff with the mouse too ^^
Ahah, thanks. Yeah, I know. As i said on the description, I used previous sketch I did and for that one I used a reference that was a screenshot of one of the Overwatch Animations (It was kinda like this ) where she was more calm.

wowowowo! It's awesome, I'm soo happy you've found FireAlpaca so good alternative! And for the first serious digital drawing it's really good! I remember what I made when I got my tablet and my first drawing was far from this good xd so I hope from now on your digital skills will simply bloom!
