I'd like to take it from Ash's point of view. The man she loves dies and suddenly out of nowhere comes back to life thanks to a known terrorist organization that had been known to do brutal and immoral experiments? Shepard could've been a clone or a dude under Cerberus' control thanks to a computer chip. I don't know about the rest of you, but if someone I loved died and suddenly came back to life after a long period of time, I'd be freakin out too. I mean the reaction she has is completely realistic, and only a dumbass would't understand that.

Yeah, I'm surprised how few players ever bother to think about the story from the point of view of the other characters. So Shepard comes back .... Dream come true? Or stuff of nightmares?

I honestly don't know why people hate Ashley so much. People constantly go on about how much of a racist bitch she is, when all she ever did was say she doesn't trust aliens. Ash is (in my opinion) one of the most useful characters you can get and has pretty much always been one of my favorite squadmates.

Indeed, too many take the word "Alien" while completely ignoring "what" these particular aliens are. Would you trust a rogue ex-cop who insists on tagging along with you, while constantly saying bad things about Saren? How would you know he isn't undercover and trying to "gain your trust"?
Would you trust a Mercenary who wants to help hunt the same person with you, but admits to your face that if someone else paid him the right price, he would kill you too?
I don't recall Ashley saying anything bad about Tali...

I'd hardly call Garrus a 'rogue ex-cop'. His position in the case was pretty clear. He was the C-Sec guy who was assigned to Saren's case, got mad over the mishandling of the case, quit, and wanted to finish the case.
I can see being a bit put off by her sharp tongue - I was initially - but I do totally agree that people are ridiculous about her. I've often thought it was weird how people use her mere distrust as a justification for actually behaving badly to her.

Exactly, his constant ranting could be him trying to gain your trust, as he is secretly an agent of Saren. I considered that possibility on my very 1st playthrough.
Yes, Ashley is very opinionated, but a counter-opinion every now and then is a healthy thing.
People keep using that one line, "I can't tell the aliens from the animals", and use it as proof of racism. I see it as merely her trying to say she can't what's sentient and what's not. We all thought the same on our 1st playthrough.
It turned out that the Keepers couldn't talk, or communicate at all. Whereas a land-dwelling jellyfish and a creature that looked like a cross between a gorilla and an elephant could talk.

Ashley's a first rate person. Agreed. I thought that comment of hers was in somewhat poor taste, but exactly that, poor taste. My Shepard responded with an eye roll and a 'Smart-alec, huh? Okay, Williams.' To respond by hating her is both unfair and totally irrational.
But we don't need to criticize Garrus. I mean - we can, and there are things about him to criticize. But we don't need to in order to make the Ashley point, and that particular criticism ... doesn't seem to... well
Okay, back at the clinic in the wads in ME1, where Garrus (usually, I think) first joins Shepard. He has just joined in a battle with Saren's assassins on Shepard's side. Now, the fact that he is a C-Sec officer doesn't remove him from suspicion, there could easily be moles. The fact that he was the investigator on the case doesn't remove it. The fact that he seems to have been fighting for a prolongation of the investigation would seem to make it unlikely. But if Shepard has not verified this elsewhere, it doesn't rule it out. The fact that he just killed the assassins who (on this theory) he would have been working with, would be a strike against it, but it still could be postulated that he is a particularly evil, treacherous spy, who turned on his own companions in order to ingratiate himself in with Shepard, and thereby put him in a position to ensure that Shepard will not get any dirt on Saren, rather than just taking out the particular dirt Shepard was on the trail of at the moment. Very well. Then, they get the info on the trap Tali (with data) is walking into. Shepard and co head to the rescue. Perfect. Any double agent worth anything would have it rigged as a double trap. Even supposing that everything went as wrong as could be for Saren's men here, even supposing that Shepard came out victor in the end, there IS going to be an ambush. And a big one because the new target is Shepard. That not only Shepard, squadmate, and Tali all survived, that even her omnitool took no damage (which would be a logical target), but that Saren's assassins never even new they were coming ...
If Garrus is involved with the Fist thing at all. He can be safely ruled out as a double agent. If he is one, he is the worst one EVER.

Indeed, and I know people who, again, would push the "racist" claim when Ashley predicts that when the Reapers arrive, the races will try to separate instead of unite. ME3 proves just how right she was.
The assassins hurting Chloe Michel may have working directly for the SB rather than Fist, or Saren, but it's hard to tell given how many people are after Tali.
Ashley also voices distrust of Wrex, who tells you (at first) to your face that despite having a common enemy, he would fight you if someone offered the right price, so his loyalty to you is non-existent at the start.

Oh I concur. It's weird hat I'm one of ashley's biggest fans because I played Mass effect 2 first so my first thought of Ashley is "Why is this bitch yelling at me?!" but then when Iplaye dMass effect 2 I thought "I know she's gonna yell at me" but I talked to and romanced her anyway.

Is it just me, or does Ashley's new outfit look like a human version of Mordin's suit?

It is nice that those who were with the first spectre human become another human spectre as well.

that's what I love about her promotion. It makes Horizon a little less horrible knowing that she stuckwith the Alliance and they rewarded her.
