Description Completed pencil fan-fanart of Artie from 's Secrets of the Ooze.  As suggested by the title, I plan to color this later (when my brain is calm enough to do a decent job )

Also, if I never have to draw another group of butterflies... (I swear, I think a drew and erased about 1,000 of them until I was ok with it).  It's so hard to get them in different poses without them looking like a 6-year old drew them!  That being said... Look Sophie, I drew strategically symbolic butterflies!

Edit: OMG... I just noticed that I dated my sig with "2013". SEE WHAT THOSE STUPID BUTTERFLIES DID TO ME??? They threw me back in time!!! (darn)

It has such a peaceful and calming atmosphere. I'm curious about your upcoming coloured version...

I like your description too!

Haha, yeah... so many penciled butterflies died in the making of this. So so sad.

I'm curious about my upcoming colored version too! Have NO idea how it's going to turn out

Oh. SO you should add "no real butterflies were harmed during the making of this drawing" to your description.

Yeah, it's not always easy to deside how to colour something...I would choose some kind of yellow-orange for the sky, like a dawn. But violet would be nice too. In any case it has to be something that stands out from the colour of the butterflies.

Another possibility is just to colour the background/ nature and keep the butterflies and Artie in bw.

I think I have an idea of what I want to do... just not sure exactly how I'm going to execute it. Stay tuned...

ohhh, wow, this is lovely!! i'd almost say it would be a shame if you colored this, it looks perfect in black & white, but i'm curious to see what you do with it. thank you, Carrie!!!

LOL! it probably WILL be a shame when I color it (haven't quite mastered that yet)

I'm going to try just a splash of translucent digital color over the pencils.

yeah, that sounds good!! not that i think you're a bad colorist, i'm just speaking from experience that it usually ends up a shame when i color my black & white stuff and i always wish i'd let it be.

Hahaha it's ok... I wouldn't be offended if you DID think I was a bad colorist. I'm still pretty inexperienced at it. I used to be fairly decent at traditional watercolors, but haven't been brave enough to attempt them again. I'm too afraid I'll mess it up and lose my pencils completely.

Truth is, I prefer B&W, but I feel like Artie needs a little cheerful yellow in this. I figure with digital, I can always erase it and start over if it doesn't look right.

P.S. Your colors are boss
