Hee, those mall-goths who wander around clad in everything from Hot Topic if they're in the States, and and everything from Raven in the UK... Well, at least their outfits co-ordinate and at least some of the mall-goths turn into regular goths after a while. It's nice to be able to buy pretty things so easily, but it's also so much fun to make your own clothes and know that what you have is absolutely unique.

I see a contradiction! Why is a goth, who worships darkness and death and all that, wearing an Ankh, which symbolizes life and hope? Though I doubt any of the kids nowadays wearing ancient symbols know what they mean.. sigh.

I have an Ankh and Pentagram, and I'm a goth and I know what both mean. Goths do not worship darkness and death, we accept it is a part of life, just the other side of the coin, and embrace it rather than fear it, embrace our inner darkness rather than shun it, embrace what it is to be human, not just the parts of humanity that are sweetness and light. We see the beauty in the darkness, but we are not blind to the light, and we love life, we love it in its fullness, and savor it all (like the Romantics, in a way). We are not depressive people, we have hope, we have joy, and I for one am an extremely vivacious, bubbly chatterbox, not at all doom and gloom, unless the situation warrants it.
