This is really cool and it reminds me of Howls Moving Castle too. I really really like the intrusion of technology into nature, it makes me feel like this is beautiful and wrong all at once.

This is spectacular... I haven't personally witnessed anything so cool. Beautiful work.

The sky at night is certainly blue in a long exposure when the Moon is bright enough. Next time the Moon is out and you have clear skies take a long exposure and get back to me.

The moon was only a couple of days off full when I shot this. So yes it was bright, and yes if the moon was up and at a similar brightness for your shot then the sky would have been significantly brighter and bluer for your image.
What makes the sky blue during the day? Sunlight passing through our atmosphere. What is lighting up the Moon when we see it? Sunlight. So that same sunlight is just being reflected off the moon and moving through our atmosphere, just like during the day. It is just a lot fainter. But if you take a long enough exposure then you can figuratively turn night to day in a photo. I can assure you that this was most certainly taken at night.
A few more examples of moonlit shots from me:
All taken at night.

Very cool picture, the effect of the sparks bouncing on the ground looks very nice.
It kind of reminds me of the movie "Howl's moving castle" in the end when the "stars" fall from the sky and Howl find Calcifer and eats him ^^

Its a very good shot though I can't help but feel like it was a bit irresponsible of you to do such a thing in the middle of a forest where you could have started a fire.
You probably brought a fire extinguisher with you but.... still...

I took this image in a forest that was already completely burnt out by a fire only a few months ago and only after heavy rain. There is nothing left to burn. Even so I had a fire extinguisher on hand just in case. I would never even think about doing this in hot dry conditions and in a high fuel load area.

Just found this comment. Sorry. Yeah I probably should do that. Thanks. But a lot of people don't bother to read the description before commenting either.

Usually when I see people doing this its in a clearing or in a tunnel (I have an entire favorites folder dedicated to such photos). I figured you might have brought one with you but it still had me a wee bit worried. LOL :> Thank you for clarifying that.

Great shot, looks like a thing from a different world. The sky could be a little more dramatic IMHO.

Fire at the end of of rope, swung around at high speeds to where sparks fly off, all the while an open shutter camera records the event and takes a picture after possibly half a minute.
