Kind of a spoiler pic for the end of "Cycle of Ages: A Chosen One" but that's only a few chapters away, so no biggie.The bit of armor he's wearing is in fact a personal Chaos Siphon (a forbidden technology more taboo than even nuclear weapons). It was designed specifically to help Tails get his revenge on Shadow, but it works quite well against any number of chaos powered freaks.

It has its uses, and he did reverse engineer the lightning shield tech from Sonic 3.
(specifically to use against Metal Sonic)
He also uses EMP in the story, railguns (on the Blue Typhoon) ... no arc cannons, tho.
Gotta be versatile. Lots of enemies of lots of types around; Miles' style in COA is to research or deduce their technological weakness and exploit it.

If its an enemy, yes. It also works for disabling or diffusing a situation as well, as with the fight he has against first Knuckles and then Sonic at the end of COA:ACO. Hell, he's have taken care of that situation just by 'talking' had another character not been there.

Forgive me for asking, but exactly why is the Chaos Siphon such a forbidden piece of technology?

In the Sonic comics, everyone who ever used a Chaos Siphon was either evil to start with (Robotnik/Eggman) or became so after using it. The most obvious example being Enerjak/Dimitri who was instantly driven mad by the power. More recently, another echidna named Finitivus used a smaller Chaos Siphon and was also driven loony. So it's technology that appears to always lead to the creation of super powered nutcases among the general population, giving it a rather bad reputation.
Tails reveals he's been building them for some time mid way into COA (since he uses Chaos Emeralds and Fake Emeralds as power sources), So, like with nuclear power and all technology, it's all a matter of how you use it.

Ah, I see. So it's not actually the technology's abilities that give it the bad rep, but rather the people who have used it? Makes sense.

Well, in his defense, Tails isn't "evil" in COA: A Chosen One. His goals are noble - end the war by destroying Eggman and his infrastructure, at the cost of some lives now, rather than many more lives later. If he has to do some less than ideal things to get to that goal, then so be it...

Interesting take on the Chaos Siphon. It certainly looks more geared to combat than Dimitri's old, bulky model.
And here I thought Tails wouldn't be quite as insane this time around. His crazy grin and evil dark energy ball - is that an altered form of Chaos Judgment from the original timeline? - say otherwise, however.

Call it the march of technology.
Dimitri and Edmund's design wasn't meant to supercharge the user, either. Just slowly drain the Emeralds. Even Fini's Siphon wasn't supposed to power him up. Unlike Dimitri and Finitevus, Tails can already naturally use Chaos Energy, so he can route it into himself without complication.
One of my goals in the rewrite was to stress more of Tails' technical strengths, as they relate to his goals. This is part of that. As a result, he's definitely more analytical and methodical than in the original story. The "dark energy ball" isn't Chaos Judgment, but rather something else...

THIS is certainlty differant from the first time around. A Chaos Siphon? As in "Made Dimitri into Enerjak" Chaos Syphon? As in "Made Dr. FIn a looney Chaos Siphon"? Wowsers... something tells me this is going to come as a nasty shock to Shadow. Though, save for the Enerjak incident, why would the Siphon be so taboo?

But yes, that Chaos Siphon. As for why its taboo, just look at all the examples of its use. Even machines like Metal Sonic tend to go a little loony when they use one on the Chaos Emeralds. Even Mogul went crazier than usual when he used one, too (though the Titan Tails stuff was never in COA, so that's a hypothetical example). A Siphon is illegal tech for good reason.

Good point. And it seems Tails has found new use for it as a handy dandy Chaos Nullifier. I'm so gonna want to see this; Shadow's more dependent on chaos energy then what's healthy it seems, so seeing this thing used on him is gonna be interesting to see.
