Your work accomplishes so much, very much in the line of Guernica, to awaken us to the current horrors in that part of the world. Real people, real lives. In deep sincerity, thank you for making my life uncomfortable.

You're absolutely right, but isn't there something like a countercoup happening now? It looks like democracy is hollowed out further by the day, so isn't Erdoghan the new dictator?

He has govern Turkey more than 10 years and he made a lot of mistakes. One of his mistakes was letting this awful cult grow. I just hope that he is able to see his own mistakes after this coup attempt. For, he had a great pressure over free press but media had a great role to stop the coup attempt.
I could hardly understand that it was not a fake coup but this cult and Fetullah Gülen was such a dangerous man. Everyday I learn more about them. Hard to believe that could happen (We call it Alien Attack). They were such a secret organisation that they could hide all their aims. 13-14 years old children were rised up. They grew slowly in 30 long years. Now they are soldiers, judges, police, doctors, people who have important works in the government. They only know their own cells, like terrorists. Their fortune is 150 billion US dollars. They have schools all around the world, even in Africa. Still no one (but a few intellegent journalist, sciencits) could guess that they would attempt such a big horror.
Shortly, the things that happened in Turkey are not fake. On the other hand, Erdogan needs to realise what can happen if he does not listen opponets, intellectuals, press and his own people.
Today opponent party had a meeting, it was also hopeful to see how people defended secual system and Ataturk. www.sozcu.com.tr/2016/gundem/t…

I'm just looking in from the outside, and so I in no way mean to belittle or insult you, but are you sure this is not mostly propaganda about Gülen? I find it very hard to believe what you are describing here. To keep such a big organization secret for 30 years, that seems hardly possible. But having gained near absolute power, I think Erdoghan would be a great man to be able to give that up again.

As I told you in the begining of my comment, Erdogan's party AKP let Gülen grow and gain power because they had similar ideas. Later, they had a disagreement (I am not sure because there are many theroies why they disagreed). This cult is not different than Jesuits or cults in Dan Brown's books. I am very interested in the subject and read anything about them. Hard to believe how they hide themselves!! Or else, a coup attempt would not happen in 21th Century.
They agreed on many subjects and supported each other at the begining. On the other hand, when we protested destroying in Gezi Park project, the police attacked us as if we were traitors. Erdogan could not guess that events would come to this point. It is their fault to give so much value and let this cult members work in government offices, army, police.
The idea in Europe "This is a fake coup and Erdogan will gain more power." is not true. The truth is Turkey had a big danger on July 15th night. So big that there could be another Iran. However, I have right to blame the governments who help him to gain such a huge power.

Omfg, this is so much worse that I thought about the 80s coup in Turkey & there are people saying that military coup is going to save everyone.
Again thank you so much for writing about it! I'll google it as well.

I had been banned for 10 years after 80 coup. No pasports, no right to work, not even a driving licence. They tortured my brother.
Anyone who support a coup must be silly or never had an experience.
I thank you for your kind concern.

Just browsing - and then I found this.
Unique and specific to that period of history. And also, all too recognizable.
Your work; a qualitative and quantitative sum of all evil.
Thank you.

Very powerful, raw and personal. Stunning representation of what happened. I'm another one who is fortunate to live in England, where people take personal safety and freedom as a given. Hard to see how it could even be possible to forget this experience, but life goes on, and people do forget. We all need reminding of how precarious our freedoms can be.
Marvellous work

Message isn't really new, and statistics doesn't really help get the point of an old message through (why did you list the 'suspicious manner' twice with different numbers by the way?). That said I really like the picture itself. Photo montages as a rule are pretty creepy but only if they're done right, and I think you have. You've captured most of the public opinions and knowledge in your language of symbols, all which are easily interpreted and thus available for all to understand. On a personal level I really like the way the old woman's face is reminiscent of a skull thanks to the blood pattern rather than the white background.

'suspicious manner' Number 8 outside and number 17 is in prison.
The message, for me, will be important and fresh until the totalitarian regimes have an end all around the world (Maybe you live in a better place than rest of the world.)
Thank you, I am glad that you find it interesting enough.
