Hey everyone! π I wanted to share my painting βAngelicaβ to kick off the weekend and the start of Black HistoryMonth! π¨π This painting was part of my solo show, βMasquerade,β at Haven Gallery in New York last year. π A fun fact about her is that I was inspired by the lovely Kat Graham when I created this painting! ππ

Trust me, references will make everything so much easier. Sometimes I forget to use them and then wonder why I'm struggling or get hung up on what I'm working on. Then a light bulb turns on and it's like "duh, you need to use a reference" lol

Haha yeah. That's for sure! I just am having some troubles in WHEN to use references because at first I often have no idea what I want to do and just want to let my imagination do its thing, but eventually I struggle and give up before I even give the references a try... my brain's a scumbag I tell ya...Β Β

Aw, well references are good when you're trying to make something specific or for perspective. It helps to create a base to work off of. If you have a basic knowledge of how something is formed then it will also make it easier to deconstruct or alter in a way that's successful.Β But I guess it'll just depend on what type of art you are trying to create! Sometimes it's also good to not have anything make sense lol But I'm sure you'll find something that will work for you! You just have to be patient and continue making art.

I am doing posts dedicated for Black History Month each week featuring previous works I've done. Unfortunately I don't have a lot of spare time this month to create something new. BUT keep an eye out for a new painting I'm doing for a gallery show next month that might have a deeper skinned beauty π
