Description This image is not a representation of reality, but the anxiety that comes along with being a man or trans man and having to attend a specifically female clinic. When one needs to have an ultra sound or be checked for breast cancer it is difficult to feel confident and natural. Some womens clinics are themed pink and specifically geared toward making women feel safe and comfortable. This picture is my comment on how that attempt at comfort can make a male (not just a trans male, but any man) feel uncomfortable. The phrase "you stick out like a sore thumb" comes to mind.

I'd like to mention. I do not think that pink is a feminine colour or that only women should wear pink. I'd wear pink myself if it didn't clash horribly with red hair. (case in point ) I have used it to represent femininity in this picture because that is the colour of the breast cancer clinic I visited some few years ago pre-surgery. I was also thinking about how in hospitals they put girls in pink and boys in blue from birth.

I made this image after my recent ultra sound to make sure I'm in good health where my remaining female reproductive organs are concerned. It may have been a mistake to try and colour it with pencils but it was a worthwhile experiment.

I understand your pain bro…
I'm due for a pap smear soon…
And I'm the same way, a trans* man who sticks out like a horse in a herd of cows.

I know this. Going to the gynecologist next month for the first time makes me have nightmares.

It's scary, no mistake. I think we all need to tell our hospitals and doctors to make the waiting areas in these specifically women's clinics more trans friendly.

I hope you have someone to go with you and be by your side.

I appreciate the added context you put in the description; all the pink would've thrown me, otherwise! And I too appreciate that not all the women are white.

I myself have been avoiding such eventualities for... a while. D: I'm not a fan of doctors generally, never mind adding this to it!

Thank you for your comment. I'm glad I added the description to explain the image a little better. I also like the have ethnic diversity in my drawings when ever possible. People are people after all!

If you ever need any advice, feel free to poke me. We're all in this together as humans right? Going to the doctors and clinics is always nerve wrecking and never easy, but these are the hurdles we jump to get to where we want to be. You can do it!

Really gorgeous work, Freckles! I agree withe everyone else -- the pencils were a glorious choice, and I really love the differentiation in the women. You're very mindful of diversity and I like that.

Diversity is quite important to me, especially since we've been teaching it to our students lately. Thank you for your reassurance that the pencil work is indeed working! I will try again with them in future.

I don't think the pencils were a mistake at all! I actually really love the coloring. Scanning does mess with pencils quite a bit, unfortunately.

Haha, I feel like my comments are going to echo drazzi's, so I'll stop. But I really love this.

Thank you so much for taking the time to leave me a comment. Every one means the world to me and makes me want to produce more work! Glad to know the pencils seem to be okay and you like the colouring. Very much appreciated <3

You are crying D: What. Why did I not notice this in the lineart? D:

I love how varied and different the women are. I think the pencil colouring worked nicely, it's just hard to get a good scan on them.

I really love how you take these experiences and make them into arts that will probably help others.

I added the little tear in later. Meep! I'm glad all the women look different, I was concerned dressing them in the same colour would make them all look the same. Also glad you think this will possibly help others, or at least relate to other people.
