Description Left to right: Princess Aerona Argall, Devlan Vance, Talia Stanton, Kayden Vance, Prince Dylan Sheridan, Gabriella Henderson, and Mickel Tallis.

You know, I can't put my finger on it, but somehow this looks familiar .

This is a remix, of sorts, of erin-hime 's Star Children picture. Erin was nice enough to draw me an epic picture, so I thought, as thanks, I'd redraw her old wallpaper to make it accurate (since she couldn't go back and tweak the original). That was...an interesting challenge. Not just because of the size of the picture, but also because I was trying to copy Erin's picture as closely as possible (except for the stuff she wanted changed). I won't lie, for a while after I finished this, I just sat there and flipped back and forth between her picture and mine. It was a little surreal seeing them switch from her style to mine. My pictures always look so much darker than hers, and this is no exception. I'm not sure why since we use the same colours and all, but...yeah. It's just kinda interesting.

I feel like I've drawn all of these guys at least once before (and some several times over ), but it's still interesting to see how they all turned out, and how they all look together. Especially since since of their designs have changed from how they originally were (sometimes fairly drastically). Mostly I'm just amazed to see all the main characters together like this. They do look pretty awesome together, if I might say so myself. I'm not sure which one of them I like best that's a total lie; it's always Aerona, since I'm kind of partial to how Aerona all the girls turned out...but the guys look nice too. Mickel looks kinda geeky (which sounds like it suits him), Dylan looks pretty cute (I hesitate to say hot but that's a failing on my part, not the design), as does Dev. And I still love those uniforms! Not sure if I do them justice as much as Erin does, but they look pretty cool. And now we know why the Thanatians are really at war with the Helians: they're jealous of the Helians' cool navy uniforms and want them for their own

I had fun doing the background. I mean, I know I was just basing it off of Erin's background and stuff, but I really wanted to try making the digital display (which is what that black bar is, a touch-sensitive display). I'm not sure how to picture it (I imagine it would look a lot smoother for one, and not so obviously pixellated, and probably more graphical than what I have), but this gets the idea across. Truth be told I just wanted to play around with a LED display action I found. (I also found this , which seems wonderfully weird and creepy -- I could picture it being used for a lot of things, like a distorted transmission or something -- but doesn't really work well here.) It took a little bit of fiddling but it worked out pretty well in the end. I think in this case, it helps that the display was mostly text. The font was this , and since I originally thought Helian names were Welsh (I think it's just Aerona, in hindsight), I was translating things into Welsh with Google Translate, for that authentic alien look. (Fun Fact: Kay mentions, in story, that what we call Stellar Cartography literally translates to "Star Lab" in Helian, and guess what that text on the top, beside Aerona, says? Star Lab....well, that's what I typed into Google Translate. Considering it's come up a couple of times in story I figured I had to work it in somewhere.)

I wish I had more to say about this, but I'm too busy flipping back and forth between Erin's original picture and mine. I know it was a long time coming, but I really hope you like this, erin-hime ! Hopefully these guys can keep your muse on Earthia even past Camp NaNoWriMo. >.>

Ah.  AHHHHHHH.  OMG.  So.  Freaking.  Awesome.

I mean, seriously, you didn’t really have to do this, but, you know, I wasn’t going to say no when you suggested it. I was definitely going to encourage this line of thought.  I mean, I feel bad, since so much effort was put into it, and the one I made you took, like, two days.  But I am not going to look a gift horse in the mouth.  Even if this is so inaccurate now it sort of hurts.  :/

Although now you should totally do a remake of your epic wallpaper just because.  That’s be hilarious and a good use of your time, methinks

I love this mostly because now I have an ‘accurate’ version of this picture.  I mean, sort of, since I am changing things.  But given how completely crap my version was because I couldn’t go back and change it, I am very happy with having this.  Because I look at it and see what should have been if I hadn’t, you know, killed my hard drive. *sob*.  And then there’s all the little extra details that just…it’s too much.  You do too much.  It’s crazy.  And I love it.

I think the reason why your pictures look darker than mine id because you use more shading that I do.  I use only two colors, and you use, like, a million, so it comes off as a lot darker.    And more natural to boot.

I love how Aerona turned out, and I think she works way better on the side there.  I don’t know why I stuck here behind everyone in my picture.  She deserves some center light!  Look at the girl!  Dev…is just there (poor guy), although he looks like he’s glaring thanks to how light his eyes are.  At least in the thumbnail version.  It’s sort of hilarious.  Talia looks nice and badass, as she’s supposed to.  Kay looks adorable (although her hands looks too small?  I mean, I would have said something earlier if I had noticed it, but I only noticed it while you were working on the background.  But that’s okay…).  I’m just sad that I posed her in such a way that you can’t really see her streak.  >.O  I think it’s funny how Dylan’s hair sort of blends in with the planet.  But he still looks awesome, even if his eyes look awkward in the smaller version.  Gabby looks adorable as well, with her hot mess of fashion sense.  And Mickel is appropriately geeky!  I love how he turned out!

And that background!  I mean, I definitely see the stripe having smoother graphics, but I don’t care!  This looks awesome and sci-fiy and just…epic.  I love it!  And I like how you made the red metal look like…red metal.  Always a plus.    I also love how you did the writing.  Definitely an interesting what to go about it!

I wish I could rave about it more, but it’s been far too long, and I’ve been staring at it every day, and…yeah.  I mean, I drew the same thing, so…this is just a shiner version of that, and I love it so much, and look at it!  Gah!  Words can’t express!  So much love.

I'm glad you like it! I knew I didn't have to do it but I knew you felt bad about losing the picture and I thought this might help. Sort of. I was kind of hesitant to suggest it, because I knew saying something would mean I'd have to do it. And you know how quickly I work at the best of times, let alone with a 7-person picture. But it worked out in the end, and you have a awesome replacement for your original wallpaper and I'm cringing so hard because this went from being accurate to NOWHERE NEAR ACCURATE in a very short amount of time.

I didn't think your version was crap. Especially since I didn't think you changed that much...? The biggest change was the boots on the uniforms and Gabby's outfit/hair. Everything else was pretty similar otherwise. But I knew you were kind of frustrated that you couldn't go back and change it (not unless you wanted to basically reink everything, and I had a feeling that wasn't ideal!) so this is the next best thing. >.> I'm not sure what I put in here that you didn't, aside from the LED display. But we have different styles and we work in different ways, so I guess mine could come off as seeming really detailed. >.O But I am glad you love it, inaccurate as it is.

Haha, maybe that's it. I usually use about 3-4 colours for shades and probably about 2-3 colours for highlights and then blend them together into a mush, so it comes off looking darker. That's also probably why I take so long compared to you, too. But it does look nice. I like doing Aerona's skin. I mean, I've done that enough times that it's not really a challenge any more (I think I'm using the same swatch I made years ago!), but it's still fun. I remember the bit of purple I threw into her skin used to seem weird; now it doesn't. I have no idea what it is about Aerona that makes her so fun to draw/colour, since it's not even like she's the only Helian character you have -- although she's the only female Helian, I'll give you that -- but damn, is she fun to draw. So I can't blamr you for wanting to show her off, because like I said...I don't even think it's possible to draw a bad picture of her. Even the worst picture still turns out pretty good. She's an awesome character like that.

Yeah, they all look pretty neat! (And as for the hands, I always tend to draw them too big initially, or think they're too big, so I scale them down just to be sure; maybe that's it? I've been staring at this for so long that sometimes stuff like that just sort of disappears to my eyes >.O) And yeah, Kay's hair...well, I can still see the streak but it's not super prominent. Her head would have to be turned the other way for that. Ha ha, I had to redo Dylan's hair because I screwed up and wound up making it too dark originally? It was bugging me and bugging me, because something looked off in my pic versus yours, and then it hit me. >.O I don't know, I was not colouring hair well when I first did that. I redid parts of Mickel and Talia's hair as well. But then I redid it and it turned out lighter that time, and I guess it blended nicely into Aeolus. How terrible for Dylan. Aeolus is eating his hair.

Haha, it's funny how a simple background turned out pretty great -- even if the graphics are inaccurate, it looks cool. And that's what's really important. It took me a while to figure out how to get the red metal to look like metal (it basically involved playing with layer effects on a grey background and then putting it on overlay on top of the red), but the effect looks so cool that it was worth the struggle. And yeah, that font was an amazing find -- it looked alien  without looking like...too alien? I know I found it in a section of runic fonts, and a lot of them were fantasy-like (like knockoff Elvish script and such), but then there was that and I thought it looked awesome. And I was right!

Haha, I do wish I could have seen it in action as a wallpaper, but that's just me being silly. But I'm glad you like it, and it's good that you managed to get some use out of it too. It might not be accurate any more, but it's still pretty awesome. Glad you love!
