>_> Didn't think I'd be able to finish this tonight.. but somehow I did... and didn't screw it up at the same time.You can consider this male juvenile to be a kind of promo for a tentative species, and an experimental SecondLife avatar.
Originally this creature had a much shorter (and less flexible) tail and feathers where the fins are. The more I mused on the older design, the more I noticed that a more aesthetic appearance would be a being with fins similar to insect wings.
This particular adolescent's coloration is based off of a south american butterfly - but not the markings - those were just random spits while watching River Monsters and other shows and listening to ze thunderstorm.
The flowers colors are for a reason in being so close to the adolescent - and will be explained later.
If the hands and the head throw you for a mind loop on odd appearance - that was intended X3 for good reason though!
There's a lot more I can say about this developing species - but I shall keep that hush-hush until I get a species sheet set up

It's beautiful, and almost looks anthromorphic~ I really, really love it.... he's soooo beautiful!
I'm guessing his coloration is similar to the flower's for camoflauge (sp?)

Not really - his coloration was influenced by this particular species since he most likely fed from it the most. Males use their fins mostly for attracting mates ;3

ah, that makes sense. You always plan out your species so perfectly, how long do you typically spend thinking of all the details? And, what would happen if a male drank from a whole variety of flowers? Would they be all the colors of the rainbow?

And if a male were to drink from no specific flower- he'd have the colors he would be born with from his parents

The flower does have some influence on the coloring - but patterning is genetic.

Yeah, me too. I'm giving it until this coming friday (the 29th)for them to figure everything out and then I'm gonna make some phone calls of my own.
So like....to they only eat from one color of flower, or could they eat from a mix, like...pink blue and purple or something?

They can feed from any flower - but the one they feed from the most has a tendency to influence their otherwise genetically decided coloring.

I can see where that could cause complications. Perhaps I should contact my own fantasy world and send you a few dragon guards to keep an eye on the gate and hold out trolls.
