This kinda reminds me of Where the Wild Things Are. They sorta look like something you'd find on that island. I'm very pleased with your efforts.

I think you did a beautiful job on detail, color and texture. I have two crits only...one you realize...the cubs face. The other is the tiger in the background...he is too bright/prominent. He almost steals the image, and becomes the subject...my eye kept being led from the subjects and to the background tiger and staying there. I would make him a bit less bright...maybe make som e mist in that area, and let him be there...just not so obviously there.
I also have to say that you did great with the values...an issue for you that you have more or less conquered in your use of pastels as a main medium.
This painting is one of my favorites of yours so far.

thanks for critique. I posted this painting to the one russian furry art.forum, and it was percieved quite agressively for the lack of cutiness and cub's strange face. Hovewer, I did not want to draw these tigers in cute vision, because it all was planned as a dark image. Now I know what to do with this background tiger, try to reduce brightness with patient colors.
By the way, i don't know am I wrong or right, but I almost abandoned russian furry communities. (and every russian therian would support me in this attitude...oh, the relations in Russia of furries and werecreatures were not too peaceful...

I am not one to ask about furries or cuteness.
I tend to prefer my cutness to come in the form of a human, or a concept...if animals are involved then cutness in the straight foward realism kind of way....as you have here with a parent/child situation.
I forget the word for making animals into humans, or giving them human traits....but as a vet tech in another life. I have a kind of instinctual dislike of such a thing.
Animals in all their glory....are animals.
If I do like a furry or anthro pic...it's for style or drawing skill...not subject matter.
I prefer to see a big cat being just that...not a big cat in a dress, and shopping or fighting evil.

I love how you can see all of the fur...you know the details and whatnot? The evergreen...pinetree whatever it is looks so realistic! The only thing that looks a little different is the nasal bone structure leading from the eyes to the nose on both the mother and cub. The actual muzzle is fine. The cubs looks like it needs to be a little longer? The cub seems to fade away into the stone background. Only because of similarities of texture (stripes and nooks and crannies of the stone). The face of the tiger far in the back right also looks a little distorted. Don't kick my butt! I love this piece.

Amazing. Just... just AMAZING. You could make millions selling your paintings. Honestly. this is truly something to behold. I can't get over how perfect you made the muscles in the tiger's shoulder. And I like the little idea of you making the cub sort of human :3 *fave*

O_O Holy crap! That's AMAZING! The detail, the color, the movement, the EVERYTHING! I mistook this for a photograph for a second there! The muscles in the tigress' shoulders are beautifully done. Hell, EVERYTHING about this is beautifully done. Wow... just... WOW. I HAVE to favorite this.
AND look at all of your other stuff, of course :3

I'm not much of a painter, so I can't critique.
However, I do like your idea of making the cub somewhat human.
Too bad it didn't turn out EXACTLY right.
Beautiful painting.
