Aluminum, or tin?
Seriously, though, she does work as a foil to Calamity a lot of times; she's more booksmart, while he's more common-sense smart. Prof. Platypus sort of acts as a foil to him in the same sort of way, but he's not quite as smart as he makes himself out to be, and certainly not as smart as Kaitlin.
Which I suppose makes Kaitlin and the Professor sort of foils, too; in that Kaitlin's actually very smart but humble about it, while the Prof. is only of average intelligence, but "makes up for it" in ego.

Except for Kaitlin; who is, in fact, a girl.
Between Calamity and the Professor, Calamity is usually the straight man. Between Calamity and Kaitlin, it can vary depending on whether the situation calls for common sense or knowledge. With the Professor and Kaitlin, Kaitlin's almost always the straight gal unless she's on one of her more fanciful kicks. Being an avid book reader, she's prone to the occasional flight of fancy, though typically not as self-deluded as the Professor can tend to be; while Prof. Platypus is more grounded in "logic" and "reasoning"(although that logic and reasoning are usually fundamentally flawed)

She has the same name spelling, same hair color, and same eye color as I have....what a weird coincidence.
