Chapter 3
When Cajade still didn't say anything after a while, Kozu croaked to get her attention, but Cajade didn't react. He croaked a little louder, but Cajade ignored him again. Kozu crawled from her shoulder to her head, bent forward and looked into her eyes upside down. Wordlessly Cajade grabbed the frog and put it back on her shoulder as she walked on in silence. Then Kozu did a huge leap and jumped Cajade right in front of her feet, so she had to stop to avoid stepping on Kozu.
"What is it?" Cajade asked, dejected.
Kozu looked at her reproachfully once again. He knew exactly what was going on. But if Cajade remained so insecure and let herself be taken away by this scene earlier, then she could forget her plan to change something.
"You may have killed Zigzagoon, but it was on my order. So I have to account for this."
Kozu continued to sit on the ground and didn't move. No, it wasn't that. He could feel that she was sorry for Zigzagoon, but it was something else that tortured Cajade. So Kozu remained stubborn. He croaked loudly once. Cajade now looked at her feet. Her eyes were covered by her hair, which fell into her face.
"He just left it there," she said quietly. "In the middle of the street. He didn't even put the body of his dead Pokemon into the grass, he didn't even look at it anymore. He just left."
She paused for a moment, then continued.
"I knew most people didn't respect their Pokemon. But I didn't know it was so bad," she said.
Kozu didn't really know what to do now. He had spent his whole life alone. He didn't know how to behave in such a situation. Cajade could feel Kozu climbing up her legs and then tampering with her backpack. She didn't pay any further attention. Then she heard a click and a flutter and Vikes landed on her shoulder. Kozu crawled onto Cajade's other shoulder and held the Pokeball with the engraving in front of her face. At first Cajade didn't react, but then she smiled and took the Pokeball in her hand. At first she looked at Vikes, whom she didn't even know yet, but he smiled encouragingly at her. Then she looked at Kozu, who nodded. Without another word, Cajade set off again with her two Pokemon and she ran straight for the forest.
"You know what happened the last time we were in a forest, Kozu?"
Kozu croaked while Vikes bowed his head questioningly. Cajade quickly told what had happened, while Kozu occasionally added something in Pokemon language, but Cajade couldn't understand that. When she was done, Vikes just shrugged casually, as if it wasn't really a big deal.
"You can fly," Cajade said to Vikes.
Together they entered Santalune Forest. Here it was a bit cooler than on Route 2 and a bit darker. The bright sunlight penetrated through the lush green canopies of the tall trees.
"If we stay on the way, then we should to get through here without big problems", Cajade finally said and stayed with her Pokemon on the well-trodden path. Then Vikes chirped and looked up. At first Cajade didn't know where Vikes was looking, but then she recognized a blue monkey high up in the trees, sitting on a branch and looking down at them. It was a Panpour.
"That’s a job for you, Vikes," Cajade said.
The sparrow nodded, spread its wings and shot up. The monkey tried to run away now, but Vikes was faster and swept Panpour from the branch. The monkey approached the forest floor at breakneck speed, but Cajade had thrown a poke ball before he could hit the ground. A beam of light, three wobbles and a click and Panpour was caught.
Mowak joined the team! ♂ Nature: Mild
Right after she caught him, Cajade let Mowak out of his Pokeball. He looked a bit confused, but was apparently not angry that Vikes had knocked him off the branch shortly before. Cajade could see their Pokemon communicating with each other. She wonder what they were talking about.
"Mowak, you're on the team now, too," Cajade said, not knowing if the others had already told Mowak before. Actually Cajade should not have mentioned this at all, because it was obvious. After all, Mowak was caught with a Pokeball by Cajade. "Um, we're going to Santalune City now and challenge the Gym Leader to...", she thought briefly. "To defeat them, yes."
Kozu put his hand in on his forehead, while Vikes once again pecked the ground and apparently didn't listen at all. Mowak just looked more confused now. Kozu put one hand on Mowak's shoulder and croaked something. Cajade ignored that, turned around and just walked on.
"We must be there soon," Cajade said to her Pokemon, looking at her smartphone. "It's not far to the exit of the forest anymore. What?", Cajade asked when Kozu tapped her shoulder. The frog pointed to Mowak, who had stopped in the middle of the path and had already fallen a little behind.
"Mowak," Cajade shouted. "Are you coming?"
But the monkey didn't move, but then, all of a sudden, he ran back the way they had come.
"Mowak," Cajade shouted.
He stopped for a moment, pointed to the undergrowth off the path, screamed once and finally disappeared between the bushes. Kozu and Vikes followed Mowak and Cajade had no choice but to run after them.
"We were almost out of the woods," she lamented as she followed her Pokemon into the undergrowth.
She couldn’t see Mowak and Kozu at the moment, as they just disappeared between the almost waist-high bushes growing close together. She had to orientate herself on Vikes, who luckily fluttered around a bit in front of here. What was going on? Mowak must have heard something, otherwise Cajade could not explain his reaction. But what was it? After a short time Cajade could see Kozu and Mowak sitting in front of a bush while they were apparently observing something. Vikes silently sat down on Cajade's shoulder and looked at her.
"What's there?", she asked Kozu and Mowak quietly and approached them closer. Kozu signalized her to come closer with his hand. Cajade squatted next to her Pokemon and remained silent. Mowak pointed his hand at something that must have been behind the bushes. Carefully Cajade pushed the twigs aside, cracking them slightly and the leaves rustling softly. What she saw there once again struck her speech.
On a very small clearing stood a Scolipede, a fully developed bug Pokemon with dangerous poison spines. But the giant insect itself was not the problem, but what it was doing. It was about to devour a human. With his claw-like legs growing along his long neck, Scolipede held the young man's body while pushing it deeper into his mouth. But it wasn't too late. As it looked, Scolipede had only just started eating the man, because so far Scolipede only had the man's head in his mouth. Apparently the huge insect had paralyzed the man, too, because he didn't fight back at all.
"We have to do something," Cajade said to her Pokemon. "Come on Vikes, attack it with your Gust."
Immediately the sparrow, who was really tiny compared to Scolipede, fluttered into the clearing and did his move. Vikes struck violently with his wings, creating a gust of wind that he directed against the large centipedes. The gust hit Scolipedes soft and dark underside of his belly, but the Pokemon didn't even seem to notice it was being hit by an attack. Instead, Scolipede just pushed the young man deeper into his mouth and his throat began to bulge.
"Damn," Cajade whispered. Had it even been a good idea to go up against a fully developed Pokemon? But she wasn't allowed to worry about that now. She had already intervened, now she had to go through with it somehow.
"Come with me," Cajade said to Kozu and Mowak. "We have to support Vikes. He can't do this alone, even if he has a type advantage.”
Cajade gathered all her courage and came out behind the bushes and stood up to Scolipede while Kozu and Mowak did the same.
"Let the man go," she called out to the huge centipede.
But Cajade's appearance only made Scolipede try to eat the man even faster. Fast and greedily, it pushed the man even deeper into his mouth and swallowed audibly. The bulge in his throat became even bigger.
"Vikes, try Quick Attack."
The bird rushed through the air and hit Scolipede's red carapace. With his pointed beak and sharp claws, Vikes once drove across Scolipede's back, but the attack didn't even cause a scratch. Meanwhile Scolipede had already reached the man's shoulders and stuffed them into his mouth as well. Several gulps echoed over the small clearing.
"Try it again, Vikes," Cajade shouted. "Kozu and Mowak, help him and attack Scolipede too. I try to pull him out."
Mowak and Kozu immediately got to work and Cajade also ran towards the Pokemon. She grabbed the man's legs and tried to pull them with all her might. Annoyed by the Pokemon attacking Scolipede, it stomped furiously with its four legs and swung its buttocks wildly back and forth. Kozu avoided the dangerous spikes that were there, but couldn't attack any further. Cajade stepped her feet into the ground and pulled and dragged, but she couldn't pull the man out of Scolipede's mouth. But there. The man's body moved again. So he was no longer paralyzed. The man wriggled and kicked his feet. One of his kicks hit Cajade directly in the stomach and she was thrown back and fell to the ground. Quickly Scolipede moved his head up and swallowed even faster. Saliva flowed out of his mouth left and right as the man slid faster and faster into the Pokemon's throat. Scolipede's neck was now heavily swollen and the dark skin tightened tightly around the deeper gliding man. Not long and Scolipede would swallow the man completely. Cajade watched in horror as the huge bulge moved inside Scolipede's throat as the it grew bigger and bigger and the dark skin of the neck stretched more and more. Then Cajade came up with an idea.
"Kozu, Vikes, Mowak," she shouted, "attack Scolipede's neck together. Go!”
Immediately the three of them let Scolipede's carapace and rear be and stormed around the Pokemon.
"Hurry," Cajade shouted with a glance at the man, from whom you could only see his kicking legs.
Kozu and Mowak both jumped into the air at the same time to give their punches more force, while Vikes aimed for Scolipede's neck from above. They all hit at the same time, leaving an evil cut in Scolipede's neck. It wasn't very deep and only slightly bleeding, but it was enough for the big centipede to spit the man out again. With a quiet splash the man landed in a puddle of sticky saliva. After choking the man up, Scolipede turned around, ran off and vanished into the undergrowth.
As soon as the giant centipede had disappeared, Cajade knelt next to the man sitting on the ground to look after him. His brown hair was wet from the saliva and his clothes were also soaked, but otherwise he seemed well.
"Everything all right?" Cajade asked cautiously.
The man breathed heavily, as if he was completely out of breath and looked down. But he didn't seem to react to Cajade's words. Instead, he mumbled something to himself that Cajade couldn't understand. A little louder Cajade inquired again about his well-being.
"Is everything okay?"
Suddenly the man stared into her eyes. Cajade was startled. His face was distorted with rage.
"You" he growled. "How dare you?" and his hands, slippery with saliva, closed around Cajade's neck.
