Description Yes, I saw dolphins!

This was taken from land, believe it or not, in one of the best places to see dolphins from land, at Chanonry Point on the Moray Firth in Scotland. These are bottlenose dolphins (Tursiops truncatus)

I went on a 'Dolphin Safari' when we were in Spain once and all we saw was one dorsal fin and a pilot whale (the whale was very much worth it, though ).

Caelitha In reply to Gaina [2008-09-30 21:43:47 +0000 UTC]

Yes, I went on a whale-watching cruise a couple of years ago (really bad idea, I discovered I don't do boats...) and saw lots of distant dolphins and a fin whale, which made the whole thing worthwhile!

Gaina In reply to Caelitha [2008-10-01 17:32:05 +0000 UTC]

Aww, I'm sorry you can't do boats but at least you saw some wildlife to make the sickness worth it .

amazing capture, its very difficult to time a shot like this and be pointing the camera at the right spot.

i've seen dolphins last month, from the ferry to Orkneys. not this species...i forgot which one it was, but we were sooo excited. and we saw some whales in the distance too

I love watching cetaceans - it's always exciting to see dolphins, and for me even more so to see whales actually - dolphins tend to come towards your boat, whereas when you see whales it's complete chance that they've come up next to you!

Ilharess In reply to Caelitha [2008-09-20 18:37:56 +0000 UTC]

when i was going to scotland, i did not think about the chance to see the whales. in adriatic, in my country, only one species of dolphin lives...and there used to be two plus mediterranean seal, but they are rarely noticed in the present

Caelitha In reply to Ilharess [2008-09-21 13:56:51 +0000 UTC]

aww well, I live in Sheffield, which is about as far as you can get from the sea in England! So seeing dolphins is a big deal for me too
