I decided to start just trying things out with my tablet and I'd thought I'd do a whole load of doodles etc., so when I started this, I hadn't expected to be wanting to share - hence the mediocre quality! However, I'm really happy with it for a quick drawing - and I've now done a portrait digitally for the first time! I'm really loving the speed available when working like this, though I can't deny the charm of a traditional drawing.

Also, I'm so frickin' excited for Karl's new show 'Almost Human'! Can it be November now, please?

thankyou so much!

I'm really proud of this one, but I have no idea how I went around it - I definitely want to try and recreate the style. And yes! The show has lived up to pretty much every expectation

This is really quite beautiful! I love all the colors you see within the skin tone and shadows. I also really like how the jacket fades away into the background. Might I ask how you get to such textures and what brushes you use to speed paint? I'm pretty new to tablet drawing, being a traditional artist as well, and I've been wanting to try a digital portrait but it definitely doesn't have the same feel as it does on paper and it's a bit disorienting.

Thankyou! I had alot of fun working on the skin - it was actually alot freer than I expected.

As for textures etc, I stuck to using 'hard round pressure size' which essentially made strokes look like opaque paint strokes - I think played around with the sizes and opacity of the brushes.. I wish I could give you a clearer answer, but it was very much just trial and error! I also used about 15 different layers - with about 4 for the skin, 4 for the hair and various others.

Definitly have a go though - just dive in and see what comes most intuitively The disorientation goes away pretty quickly, you just have to give your tablet a chance!
