I have noticed something....There are A LOT of Sonic the Hedgehog fans out there. Its not an amazing new fact. But it is surprising that so many people dedicate many of their submissions to the Hedgehog and his furry friends and allies.
the original Sonic for the Sega Genesis was one of the first games that I remember, period. SO it has a very personal spot in my heart. Its just unfortunate that the 3D sequels have been not so well recieved.
So this is for me, and all of you.
This has got to be the first stamp where that bright red was actually put to use and it looks okay!

For the recorrd, I kinda like the classics, but I'm more leniant towards today's games. I think that most people hate the new stuff because they refuse to accept it (I guess I just love underrappreciated things) but if you like the classics, I respect thay.

I can't speak for everybody. I just know that if the games were better handled, I'd like them just fine. I don't dislike them to be an old hipster. Plot or no plot, the old Sonic Team made the games fun without overcomplicating it. More often then not the newer gamesΒ are glitchy and lack the sense of speed that I enjoyed from the older games. Nothing is more bothersome than actually going really fast only to hit a wall or miss a speed boost and then I have to gain speed again. For some reason Sonic is soooo slow in the 3D games until he picks up some speed. You may like all these new supporting characters, but I don't. Less is more sometimes. All I need is Sonic and maybe Tails, Knuckles. Maybe Amy and Shadow too.

Well, in the classic games, you can barely keep up your speed since you run into enemies. Sonic moves slow in the 3D games because he's building up momentum.

You'd run into enemies just as much in the 3D games. It's also a lot easier to get stuck in places because there's more room to go places in a three-dimensional space.

I like how you can explore in the 3D games. I feel restrained in the 2D games.

Exploration is a lot of fun in 3D games, especially in Sonic Adventure's overworld areas. But when all is said and done, I'm playing Sonic to go fast, collect rings,Β and bust some baddies. I'd pop in Sonic 3 or, even more so, Sonic CD way before I'd pop in...Sonic Colors or anything of that variation.

But I find the 2D aspects to be equally boring and predictable. At least the scenery changes in the 3D games.

The same could easily be said about any 15-20+ year old game. They didn't have the technology to do what they do now. That doesn't make them any less valuable to the world of games. I just so happen to prefer where we were instead of where we're currently going with the series.Β It's important to point out that we wouldn't have those newer games that you love without those older games as a foundation. They should at least be respected in that regard.

Meh, I still don't like it as much, and the gushing is only gonna make my perspective on it worse. Come on, there has to be something you like about the newer games and something you dislike about the classics (sorry if I come off as pushy)

You probably shouldn't let everyone else's opinion dictate your feelings. I've done it before and I'd rather avoid it because it benefits nobody. If you like the newer games then more power to you. Nothing you say to me will change my mind and nothing I say should change your mind. It is a matter of opinion. I'm certainly not telling you to like the classics but they should at least be acknowledged as the foundation of one of your favorite franchises.
I'm not even going to continue to point out what I like or dislike about the series because I can guarantee you that it's the polar opposite of yours and defeats the purpose of what I wrote above. It's the same with people who fight over which game console is better. Who cares? Lets just play games and have fun. This isn't supposed to be a debate anyways. This stamp isn't saying I prefer one period over another it's just saying we are Sonic fans, right? So just enjoy what you enjoy.

That's too bad. I think the classics are the only ones worth playing. After Sonic Adventure 2 it was all downhillΒ from there. Just one glitchy sequel with unnecessary side characters after another. To each their own, as they say. ^^

It's mostly due to constant gushing from the rabid fans. I didn't mind the side characters since they can lead to more interesting stories and plots (I just didn't find any valuable plot in the classics). I respect your opinion.

Having grown up playing all the games, I can assure you that the core value of the series has changed/diminished from what I have come to expect from such a formerly excellent series. But to each their own.

I think it's not age, but game development. I mean, I LOVE the old Sonic games and even the old cartoons. Most of the newer stuff. Meh, not as much. It might be different for you than me, but that's just what I think. ^^
